All the recent .270 love has made me want one. Surely there is a need because I'm only loading .375 H&H, .30-06, .308, 7-08, .243, 223.

I sold a .280 because it never really excited me. But for some strange reason, the .270 is calling my name and I can't make it quit.

Do any of us ever REALLY need a reason? Blame it on Jack O'Connor's ghost... or the simple allure of a classic cartridge. Better yet, the allure of a classic cartridge in a classic rifle, like, say, the "new" Win Model 70 Featherweight. I picked up one of the new FN-made guns a couple of months ago and have been very impressed on all counts. It's a beauty -- and a tack driver, to boot.

If you didn't like the 280 then you're sure as hell not going to like the 270. Everyone knows the 280 is the better round.... whistle

The longest clean kill I ever made was with a .270.
Nosler 130 gr Ballistic Tip at 450 yards across a big field.
I had a good steady rest and had already paced off the distance because I had been hunting there for almost 30 years.
She ran about 50 yards and then collapsed dead.
I doubt my 35 Whelen would have made the shot as easily.

My 270 is the boringest gun i got but when the cards ate on the table its never faild to bring home the meat. Seems when i carry that gun i kill deer like its lucky or something but its a greatround and flat outkills. Ive had more bangflops with it than my 30-06 and honestly dont know hpw that is.

Rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

By all means, take the plunge. Plenty of nice , new factory rifles out there to suit all budgets.
I have two - a sako 85 finnlight (sweet!!) and a Ruger hawkeye with a Hogue full bedding block stock - (just as sweet!!).

Shoot a 130 grain slug and you not fear anything - provided you place the shot properly......

Years back I bought a M70 Classic Sporter in .270 because of Jack O's influence on me in my teens. Couldn't afford one with a decent scope until I was 40 or so. Took it hunting deer three years. Three shots, three deer. Two were bang flop, one ran maybe 75 yards (heart shot). Best rifle I have ever owned.

Don't know why you want a 270. Nothing wrong with the cartridge, but I've never been in love it. Always had a 25-06. Didn't need a 270 I guess.

I can't live with that much caliber gap. A .270 is easily justified. Only problem is .270s are addictive...

I know the feeling, I just bought a Sako Finnlight in .270 Win and it's turned out to be the most accurate Sako I have ever owned, not all of the Sako's I've owned over the years have been "Tack drivers" by any means but this one sure is.....Now I want a .270 in the new Remington Mountain rifle, I think these two would make a nice lightweight pair...So My vote for you is go for it!.......Hb

LOL, bsa we have to get you converted. laugh

JOC was right. The 270 Winchester on a Model 70 is a great combination as is the 30/06 and 375 H&H

Why do I want a .270?

Because you don't have a 6.5x55. Obviously.

Once you buy one and give it a "workout", you will see that it performs well beyond its good looks, friendly recoil and numerous ammo options.

Putting aside my anti-.270 bias, if I had the cartridge lineup you have, I would probably be looking for something that isn't basically duplicating what you already have... a .270 is an awful lot like the '06, .308, and 7-08. I would probably look at something more like a .25-06, or .257 Weatherby.

That being said, if you want a .270, get a .270. You can never have too many rifles!
