I had the handle break on the cheap skinner I had been using for meat cutting so I decided to put a couple knives this week. I wish I had the skill to make my own blades but I dont have the skills nor equipment so I order the pieces from Texas Knife Makers Supply. I have spent hours searching for knives in the field after putting them down so the user has orange g10 scales. The other is maple burl with mosaic pins. Both blades are cryod 6A stainless. I have had good luck with this steel on other knives in the past. I kept thinking beauty and the beast is a good description for the pair. BTW, taking good pics of knives may be harder than putting them together IMHO . Thanks for looking.....

Have an Old Gerber Folder that I can't seem to loose because of that Orange...thought I lost it once in the fall of the year but found it while tilling the garden in the spring!
Why do I always get too close to the fire and melt my boots?

and sadly, there are 'custom makers' out there, that do just the same. Buy from Texas or Jantz, maybe do a little grinding, slap on a set of scales, and call them 'custom'.

Very cool. Did the handles have to be shaped from scratch and finished? I am sure you get some self satisfaction from doing that much yourself.

Thanks all,
FVA - The blades are rough shaped and the scales come as blocks. I have used scrap g10 and other pieces of wood in the past but ordering the scales is much less labor intensive.
You polish the inside edge of the scales to the bevel of your liking initially because you cant get to this area once they are attached to the blade. Secure the two scales together (clamp, vices, tape ect) and then drill your holes using the blade as the template. Then mix your epoxy and secure together with your pins. After that it is just grinding and sanding until it feels right to you. It makes a nice weekend project and you can assemble a knife to your specs.

Wow, you did an excellent job on those. I've put a couple of those together when I first started just to understand some of the mechanics etc. Still have one around here somewhere and it's a good solid working knife. Think the one I have is S30V but I did a couple in the A6 and gave 'em to friends and they love them. I'm sure you'll enjoy 'em more because you built them yourself. Next you need to learn to build a sheath.

Thanks again,
The 6a is supposed to be slightly less tough than 440c, but I havent been able to tell the difference and the 6A seems to take a sharper edge on my stones - of course I dont pry or split ribs with my knives.
BTW, I have made 2 sheaths. 1 for a small multi-tool and one for a mini-skinner that was smaller than any sheaths I could find. Both came out okay and functional. That is a whole different skill set and I prefer to order premade and water fit them if I can. Leather is expensive and I used quite a bit!
