Right now, given my hunting is primarily east coast, it's the 6.5x32 Minox IFs or the 6x30 Leupold Yosemites.
The 8x30SLCs and 8x32 Ultravids are spectacular, as are the x42 versions.
What kind of hunting you do, and where, will dictate a lot.

I carry 8x28s that have been great for everything from Michigan deer hunting in thick stuff to pronghorn hunting out in Wyoming.
If you're looking for a great value (that is, LOTS of performance for the price) I'd highly recommend checking out CameralandNY's Vortex stuff. You can score KILLER deals on GREAT glass there.

Love my 6x Steiner Military & Marine, cause you can do a quick "one hand look" without shakin' all over while huntin thickets for whitetails.
Why do I always get too close to the fire and melt my boots?

8x42 Minox here. Got them for a great price at Cameraland, and absolutely love them.

I over did it by buying a pair of Leupold Golden Ring 7/12x32mm Switch Power Binoculars. They were on 'sale' at Cabelas! Sure they are neat in the big fields. One day I saw some deer way out there! I wanted a buck and they were way too far to make out. Now the money is gone. Just some 8X's would be ok and we all have them.

I do think the best all around power is 8X. My favorite in this size is the Swaro. 8.5x42 Swarovision.

Been using 8x42 for years...most recently the Leica Ultravids.
Just got a 10x42 Ultravid HD from Doug and couldn't be happier.
Winchester rifles and Swarovski scopes.

Every time I leave the 15's at home, it seems I regret it. Too much long distance scanning, I guess.

I do like them quite a bit. They are nice and small at 32mm yet the resolution is excellent. Whats neat is to be able to tell "what is it" when something is way off. They only go 12X so way out west I read some carry spotting scopes. These binoculars are much easier to carry. The thing is that even on sale I think the cost was about $500 and the list price about a grand. Link
