Has anyone had a chance to lay hands on Kimbers new rifle, and if so what did you think? I am thinking of getting one but am wondering if I should wait for Forbes new one to come out. Any comments?

If the quality is like the new 84L it will be a cracker. Especially if it is offered in 7mm-08Rem.

Does anyone know if the lightweight trigger guard and bolt handle are available as a separate purchase from Kimber?

I put my hands on one last week and first thoughts was it looked like something from a cracker-jack box. The dipped camo stock felt cheap along with the dura-coated barrel & action. My opinion was only an aesthetic opinion though. If you need a lightweight for a 1-2 time hunt it may serve one's purpose and shoot fine, but for longevity I'd build a custom or keep shopping.

Just watched the new vid. It seems these will be offered in 4 cals. 308Win, 270Win, 280 & 30-06.
270Win will be just about perfect if it has a 24" tube, plus muzzlebreak.

I doubt they'll be available this year, at least not in a while unless Kimber can speed things up.

I guess Kimber's marketing department knows what they are doing, but a 5 1/2 pound (scoped) 30-06? Ouch!
Please tell me the 308 comes in a short action. A rifle this light begs for a 7mm-08 and a 260 Rem version.

Ugly stock, muzzle brake and goofy cut-outs?
The regular Montana just got better IMO.

That has to be in the top 5 ugliest rifles made, seriously who is Kimber hiring to come up with this junk... they should have put all the energy into making their existing rifles more consistant and accurate, the Montana's were plenty light!

The regular Montana just got better IMO. Yes, it did. The Ascent looks like a "Harlem Renaissance" rifle

The mantra in selling or marketing is "New". The product has to catch someones attention. "Oh, look at that!" Thats what Kimber has done. Just a try for the (bizarre want) market. If they sell a few then thats all marketing wants. It's beyond ugly to my taste. To add: Note that we are talking about Kimber and not some other brand! That some have said there that this or that one is just fine with them. Marketing.
