My rifle is very accurate with 125 Nosler BTs and RL15. I thought I'd try the 125 Speer TNT with that powder for a varmint bullet. So far I'm not aware of any other 125 varmint bullets. The 125 Speer is advertised as very explosive so I'm assuming ricochets shouldn't be a problem. Am I correct on this? Are there any other 125 varmint bullets you'd recommend? I know there's various 110 varmint bullets in this caliber but figured I'd try the 125s first.

I've been experimenting with Sierra 125gr hunting bullet as the recoil from heavy bullets has become a problem. I've had great success with Speer's 130gr HP with about 51gr of IMR3031 behind it. I think Sierra sells a 125gr varmint rated bullet too. Not sure tho. Thanks for the tip on the RL15. I don't have any and my IMR3031 supply is getting low.

When Sierra was located in Santa Fe Springs, CA, my Dad would stop on his way home from work and buy seconds or bulk bullets from Sierra in brown paper bags for his 3 teenaged sons to reload in their .30-06s. The 125 gr Sierra was our favorite plinking, target and varmint bullet. We shot it over 55 gr of IMR-4064. That may be a max load these days, but it worked very well on the occasional coyote and hundreds of jack rabbits.

I only have experience with the Sierra 125 Varminter but it has been consistently accurate across every .30 caliber rifle Ive shot it in thats at least 4 .30-06s and a couple of .308s. To be seated deep enough to withstand rough handling it sits a good ways from the lands but it still shoots great.

Pretty explosive as well. Ive disintegrated a few jacks with it from the .30-06 and it will even expand on a teeny little ground squirrel, basically making them disappear into another dimension with a loud Pop!.

I've played with the Speer 125 gr. TNT. Scary accurate. Both the 125 gr. Sierra and the 130 Hornady are also excellent.
If you are going to use it on varmits, I'd suggest the faster burning powders like H4895 and Ramshot TAC. Keeps the recoil down, etc. E

These aren't varmint bullets but another very mild recoiling 30-06 load is the Sierra 150 Pro Hunter flat base with 50 gr of 4064. It chronographs around 2825 fps and is accurate. My rifle shoots it to the same point of impact at a hundred yards as the 125 Nosler BT with 52 gr of RL15. Recoil feels the same to me with both loads.

I've used the 125 TNT a lot, and along with R15. Absolutely the most accurate load I worked with in those guns.

It tosses chucks like no other!

As an added bene, change out the bullet with a 125 NBT and you have an instant rock star of a deer/lope round.

The bullets a shooter in the 308 and my 300 WSM as well!

I've been loading the TNT and Ballistic Tips in 30/06 for kids for the last 7 or 8 seasons...right around 30/30 speeds.. and it is more than capable as a deer round at those velocities...

I've taken a couple of deer with a 125 Sierra and a charge of 30 grains of IMR 4198....

I've used the Sierra 125, Speer 130 hpt and the tnt. The TNT didn't richochet as much as the Sierra nor was it quite as accurate. The TNT is a good choice but cost more. About any bullet out there will richochet past 200 yards.
