I have a stock coming soon and need advise on how to finish it. It's a wood laminate and I have no access to a paint booth or paint gun. What's the best way to finish a stock like this by hand? I've done a few wood stocks but never a laminated one.
Advise anyone?

I use Helmsman's exterior spar varnish straight from the spray can.

Laminated stocks are hard to stain because of the type of wood (birch) and the penetration of the resin into the wood during lamination; that's why the wood is stained before lamination. Dyes work better than stains, I've had pretty good luck with Transtint from Woodcraft; mix it up with alcohol. The other option is to add colorant to the finish.
