How hard is this round to reload for? Are components readily available and dies? Anything special needed. I got an itch to get a semi auto deer and hog rifle and think a AR style build using this cartridge may do the trick.

No different than loading for any other semi-auto. Works fine on deer. Can't comment about hogs, but a bunch of other people use it on them.

It works fine on hogs, especially with some of the tougher bullets made for the round, such as the Barnes TSX's, both tipped and not.

Someone referred me to the 300 Blackout as well. Anyone better than the other or is it just personal opinion? Thanks.

My personal preference is the 6.8SPC for numerous reasons. More than you wish to read with this link.

The appeal of 300 BLK is that it offers better performance on target than 5.56mm and is an easier upgrade than 6.8 because it is just a barrel change - the bolt and magazines are the same as 5.56mm. It seems like it will end up the #1 alternative cartridge sometime this year.

I would go 6.8 (and did) more capacity than the blackout, you dont give up much in the way of bullet weight (when you use the blackout within reason) 110 nosler accubond w/cannelure over H322, and you are ready to rock.

I think I will still go with the 6.8 SPC! I think if I were looking to suppress it then I would go with the 300 blkout and heard that most magazines still need to be modified to some extent to get to work properly in the 300 blkout?

Robert Silvers is/was Research and Development Director of AAC as in .300 AAC Blackout. It appears that he has a financial interest in seeing that the .300 BLK does well in the market place. Not that the .300 BLK does not have some valid uses, just take statements like "It seems like it will end up the #1 alternative cartridge sometime this year" for what they may be worth.

No - magazines do not need to be modified to work with the BLK.

Yes, I am project lead - and know the sales figures for 300 BLK vs other cartridges. That is why my statements as to how popular it will become actually have some basis and are not pure speculation.

Thanks all who responded. I guess I need to compare ballistics out to 300 yards? I would like to be able to do double taps so recoil is another issue I am looking at the ability to get off accurate second and third shots is important when hunting hogs.

Why do you feel you need to do "double taps"? I routinely kill multiple hogs out of a group with my 6.8 and 110 AccuBombs. Never needed a second shot after hitting them.

If a shot is poorly made a quick follow up would be a proper response. I don't plan on making a bad shot, but of course I never plan on missing either? I have always used a 30 caliber so I have alot of faith in that caliber but a 6.8 is new to me so I'm not sure of its abilities, only mine.

Get a 6.8, and I'm sure you'll be killin' hogs right and left. Lots of good info over on the AR forum, also. Good luck!

6.8 has more range than 300 BLK.

For example:

With a +- 2.5 inch MPBR, then 300 BLK will be 2.5 inches low at 223 yards.

Hornady 6.8 110 V-MAX will be 2.5 inches low at 241 yards.

So you can go an extra 8% more range with 6.8 without adjusting your sights.

Is that worth 40% more expensive ammo? For some yes, for others no.
