say you have a colt H-BAR AR in cal 223 rem in good working order, what are there available in other cal upper receivers that will swap on in place to increase the long range hitting power, Ive heard theres 6.5mm caliber conversion uppers that are direct swaps, whats involved and what other options are there that still use the factory original lower receiver?

You are probably refering to the 6.5 Grendel or the equivalent .264LBC. All you need to do is buy an upper, push the two pins to remove your current upper and put the new one on. You may have to get magazines to fit the new round, but I'm not up to date on that aspect; these things change so quickly.

You're right, the Grendel uses a different follower so magazines are a needed item for one of these. My dad (at 81 years old) just got himself a Grendel and I'm watching the development closely...I may have to get one too...

Dude, you may have a colt large pin lower, Check it out before you buy, there are adapters but I don't like them.

I would go with the 6.8 SPC myself

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.

I don't disagree with you, it's just more of a hassle to deal with.
