Hey guys. To say that I am a newbie in building a rifle would be an understatement but I am taking on a 7-08 build. I have just about everything ready to go except for the stock. Leaning hard towards a McMillan Edge. I am building this rifle on a SS 700 action and have orderd a Brux fluted barrel that is a #3 medium sporter contour. Here is a link to the contour page on the Brux website: http://www.bruxbarrels.com/gpage1.html

Here is my question: I have run across a McMillan Edge that has the Remington magnum contour. Will this stock work for what I am building? Here is a description of the stock that I have come across:

"This stock has been on my Rem 700 .260 SF for about 20 rounds, never hunted, bench only. New condition.

Right hand, Rem 700 Classic, short action, magnum BC, Edge construction, 13.5" LOP, gray paint, stainless studs, 1" decelerator pad."

I really appreciate any help that you might be able to lend. I think this stock will work but I would like to hear from you guys that have experience with builds.

Thanks in advance.

May not be an exact drop in fit, but hogging out the barrel channel on a McMillan is an easy task. Classic will work with a #3. Action will definitely fit. Is it ADL or BDL stock? May have to get different mag box, depending. I prefer ADL for simplicity's sake.

It is a BDL stock. Thanks for the input. Sounds like it should be a go for the stock.

If the barrel channel is too big for your barrel, you can either fill it with bedding material or sent it back to McMillan to re-inlet the barrel channel to your application. I believe they charge $75 for that service.

You could call Brux and have them change your contour to a mag sporter with flutes then it would fit..good luck!

Just fill any extra space in the barrel channel.

I have a #3 brux in hand, as well as a Manners SL stock cut for a Remington sporter contour barrel. The #e will fir the stock with very little tweaking around the transition from the straight shank to the taper.

So, one cut for a magnum contour barrel should work pretty cleanly. There will be some gaps on the side, but it certainly won't be unsightly.
