Home Forums Gear Knives and Blades Need some help here

Might not be the right venue, but maybe it is. My wife is a quilter and she is in need of a quality (better than Fiskars) pair of fabric scissors. While I know a little about knives, I am clueless to something of this nature. Perhaps someone here has some experience in this matter and can point me in the right direction.

I appreciate any help yall can give.

Hang tight. I'll get you the hook-up. The amount of sewing and quilting that my mother and her family does is staggering. They've got GOOD scissors.

Get the sharpening stone for the same.

Get her a rotary cutter from Olfa or Fiskars from there as well, and a cutting mat for the rotary cutter.

That advice comes from two women that are "rabid" about their sewing and quilting.

Their only other recommendations were to "BE CAREFUL! Those are SHARP!"

Thanks, she has the rotary and mat already. Just tired of the Fiskars wearing down so quickly. We have a JoAnn's in town so will check them out. Appreciate the help.

No problem at all. My mother has tried to wear out a few different sizes of those Gingher shears. No dice, yet, and she uses the HELL out of them, and she's also abusive to her stuff.

Very, very good shears. She'll be VERY happy.

My mom was a home economics Teacher for over 40 years and still does a great deal of sewing, knitting etc. She seconded VA's recommendation on the Gingher's. According to her, they are about the best you can do.

Well, thanks to VA's recommendation. Headed into town today and got her a set of Gingher's. Definitely a step up from the stuff she has been using. Could not find the stone though, so will have to track that down.

Gingher's have been around a long time. I think we have a couple of their zig zag (pinking) scissors. You cut the cloth and the threads don't unravel. They're heavy duty.
