any suggestions for a dovetail to picatinny base. have looked at bkl and http://www.diproductsinc.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=164828&CAT=3603. just wanted some input on these or any other. the dovetail on the receiver is junk so i was wanting something more sturdy

Nothing wrong with the factory dovetail. You just need the right rings to grip it tightly enough so your scope won't slide under recoil. Lots of rings won't. Ones that will are the BKL's and the Leupold rifleman vertically split aluminum rings.

I've read good things about the DIP base, and do agree as well that the proper scope rings will grip just fine. I have Simmons Rings on my son's 795 and his scope seems to be staying in place. His 795 is 3 - 4 years old, so I expect it was made at the old Marlin plant.
