I posted this in the classfieds too.

My Dad has a Browning BAR (pretty sure Grade 1, no engraving) chambered in .270 win that he is thinking about selling. To say that this gun has been well taken care of would be a tremendous understatement. He has owened this rifle since new and it was manufactured in 1985. Only used for 1-2 deer hunting trips/year. Probably 100 rounds down the tube in it's entire life. Blueing and wood will be a conservative 98%. It has been a while since I have seen this gun but I am sure it is just like new. Rifle made in Belgium, assembled in Portugal. Currently has a same year model Leupold Vari-X II in 3-9x40, gloss finish with plex reticle. Pretty sure he has the original box and paperwork but will have to find it. He is considering selling to purchase a lighter weight bolt gun. Can you guys give me some real life ideas of what he could expect to get out of it?

Figure around $500 for the rifle, $175 for the scope. I'd suggest that he takes the scope off before selling the rifle. You rarely get full value when selling a rifle/scope combo.

Thanks for the replies. Helps to have some experienced views on the subject of valuation. Any other thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Check on gunbroker completed listings, it will give you a good idea of what similar ones have been selling for. If you could get $650 that would be great but average market price will probably come in lower.

$500-550 on average.

I agree on keeping the scope, you won't get full value out of it.
