I have a Marlin 60 that I have had 30 years or more. I recently took it apart and gave it a good cleaning because it like those models sometimes do, frequently jammed.

I'm using the economy box of Winchester LR"s from Wally world. It jambs a lot. This is the first time I have used this ammo anyone else had this experience?

What can be done (other than keeping it clean) maintenance wise to reduce the jamming.

Get rid of the junk economy ammo and put some CCI mini -Mags in the tube. More than likely problem solved.

Does the ammo have a flat nose to it? That would be the problem right there. My '71 vintage M60 will NOT feed anything but a nice smooth round-nosed ammo, period. Never has, hell, it won't even feed Winchester Power Points, they are too bluntnosed.

Like the previous poster mentioned, get yourself some CCI Mini Mags and go shooting. Or some of the Federal bulk, if you insist on cheap ammo. Avoid the bluntnosed WW or anything Remington at all.

Thanks,
Those Winchesters are flat nosed hollow points. I just use them up in the ole 6 shooter, and get something better for the Marlin.

My Glenfield jam'o'matic model 60 has the same issues and it's so bad that I don't even bother taking it hunting. Always jamming.

Mine eats Mini-Mags by the brick and never jams but put that cheap bulk pack ammo in it and it chokes.

I haven't tried them but will. Might go out looking for rabbits on super bowl Sunday (still mad about my packers).

Another vote for the Mini-Mags, problem solved. They shoot clean and feed reliably in all my Model 60's.

If ammo isn't the problem replace the feed throat. Its about $30 in parts and will more than likely fix your problem and allow you to shoot bulk ammo if you would like. Even if the feed throat looks fine I would still replace it.

I remember when I was a kid that the original 60 was know as a Jam-O-Matic...the detachable box magazine ones at least. Never heard anything bad about the tube fed ones.

I think whatever problems they had have been solved. I have a stainless Papoose and it feeds everything...

It could be a number of issues but you might try polishing the feed ramp. You'd be surprised at the times that it's just something simple like that.

I buy all the jam o matics that I can find and usually it's just a simple fix or a few dollars out of pocket for a new replacement part.

During reassembly after cleaning the very thin and long mainspring often gets kinked. If that happens, and it is extremely easy to do, your gun will jam. Prior to my cleaning my m60 went for 25 years with very few jams-- most ammo related. Post cleaning, with a kinked spring, it wouldn't cycle a full mag tube without a jam. Put in a new, unkinked spring, and back to extreme reliability.

You can order the springs from Marlin. They are not that expensive, but shipping is crazy as I remember. Buy 2 or 3. The new ones kink as easily as the original did.

Good luck!
