Gday folks, Im about to scope a Ruger MkII 243 and wanted some opinions from owners of these 3 similarly priced scopes. Im going for a 3-9x40 duplex type, not interested in illuminated or BDC types.
Cheers, Scott.

I have never ran a Sightron, but have run both the Prostaff and the Trophy (the older model). Out of the two I would go with the Prostaff, because the clarity seems better to me. Another option would be a FullField II. I don't know if that's something you'd be interested in, but in that price range I like it the best.

Thanks mate, hadn't considered the Burris, it kinda gettin up near a Redfield Revolution in price though, so I guess that comparison needs to be made. The Redfield is what Id probably go for if I end up jumping up a little in price brackets.

Cheers, Scott.

A very decent scope, especially for the money.

I've had an S-1 and a couple of pro-staffs. I'd take another pro-staff over an S-1 unless I needed extra length for ease of mounting. The pro-staffs are a bit short for some applications.

The Prostaff suffers from strong veiling flare.

+1 for the Burris suggestion, however of the ones you mentioned I would go with the prostaff though the one I have is the older version. I have not looked much at the new ones. I might also point out that you can probably find a deal on the recently replaced VX-I leupolds for a similar price on sale. I think they are a pretty decent scope for under $200.

Those Trophy XLT's are a step up from the old trophy. A buddy got one recently and it seemed pretty decent.

I don't think you could go wrong with the Pro Staff or Trophy, don't know about the Sightron.

Although I'm sure any of those scope would work I'd suggest the Burris FFII.
By the way Natchez has the new E1 on sale, 3x9x40 for $149

The new PROSTAFF now has fully multicoated optic's which are a definite improvement over older model's. The finger adjustable turret's and zero reset are a nice addition as well. You can pick up a 3-9 or 4-12 Nikkoplex reticle scope for under $190 retail.
I put a 4-12 on my father in-law's .308 this year for deer hunting and he harvested 3 doe and a nice buck all 1 shot each and inside 300 yards.

Thanks guys, I reckon I'll go for the Nikon. Keep hearing great reports about clarity, and I like the look and lines of the scope. I had also considered vx-i's but Ive had/ got Leupolds and want to try something different. Still may consider a Burris if funds permit.

Cheers, Scott.

You know there has been no mention of the redfields or weaver classic series both a pretty good option too. Just in case you don't have enough options. :^)
