Anyone from the West MI ara make it out to the GR gun and knife show? I was there yesterday so for anyone that may be heading out today, this is what i came across.
1) Post mil .243 99-R, Good bluing and wood - $850. Wish I would have had the cash on hand for this one!
2) 99-358, with scope and in good condition. Wanted $1250
3) Multiple 300 EG's... go figure. One was a take down that they were asking too much for and the other was very odd to me. It had a tang safety that when you push it back and fourth, it moved the safety on the lever... is this how all of them were, or a modification? It looked to me like the lever safety had been broken off. Not sure though. I took some really bad cell phone pictures and will try to post them later.

They did not make a post mil 99R in 243... but if its a pre-mil 99R in 243... I'll take it!!! Going to guess it was actually a 99F.

You're probably right... missed this one while paging through Murray's book. Any idea when they stopped making the R in 243. Murray shows serial number to 1,060,000 with the R added in 1956.

Rumors exist of a 99R over 1,000,000 but the reality is they ended at about 9688xx... very few Rs were made in the last few years and of those, most were in 300 and 250.

Z-mac, I'm curious about what you thought of the GR show. I've been told it's in a new building and somewhat different from the "old" show. What did you think?

Locating the building was a bit difficult, lines were long and when you did get in, it was crazy busy. The Deltaplex was a much better location.

Looking at the book this was an 99-F in 243. Makes more sense being a post mil. In over-all good condition, not D?/T, is the price they were asking good? ($850)

The safety you described was a non-factory addition. I think we've seen a few different variations. I recall Loggah has at least one rifle with this safety; maybe Drew as well IIRC.
