There is no doubt that one can drop big money and score very, very nice optics. But, sometimes I am truly surprised (pleasantly) by the quality of optics in some scopes rather than others.

For the money I have paid, these have been the most pleasantly surprising:

Vortex Crossfire 6x40 - $49.99 (new) [most surprising for the $$ to me]
Redfield Revolution 2-7x33 - $100 (used, like new)
Leupold M8 4x - $125 (used)

I know these are the more budget end of things, but a good deal on a Conquest can bring a smile to my face as well.

But how about you - best optical surprise for the money spent?

2.5x Weaver, new model. Unfortunately they stopped making them a few years ago.

I checked the site earlier today to check weights. The 6500's are still listed.

That's corrrect Rich. What they did was to take the most popular versions in the 3200 and 4200 lines and make just one linefrom them called Elites. The 6500 Elite line is seperate and unchanged from what I can tell. Looks like there might be a "Tactical Elite" line now also, but I'm not familar with them.

All of my scopes are 4200's, 3200's, a 6500, and one elite tactical. They have been my favorites since about 10 years ago when we started getting alot of rain here in buck season. Just think that with the brightness, clarity, and rainguard the 4200 really is an excellent value. Saying that I just came back from the range about an hour ago and my 4200 2.5-10x50 elevation turret locked up when I was trying to adjust it. First problem I've had with one. Guess I'm gonna find out how their customer service is firsthand. lol.

The new ELITE models that were brought up to 4200 level and a couple of other improvements supposedly. I have the 3x10x40 which is a compact model.
