35 anything, and the 416 Rigby, OK they are really just mediums, but they are my favorites anyway.

375 Whelen AI come close? Mine is built as a safari rifle. I also favor a stout loaded 45-70, but currently live without one. If given a chance, I'd like to own a double rifle 45-70, as made by Spartan (imported by Remington). I come across one in the net the other day. Seems cool. ~~~Suluuq

Ditto the .35s, especially the .35 Whelen and the .350 Remington

I define "Big Bore" as above 375H&H ... so 458WM tops my list, but I'm also considering putting together a 416Taylor and loading the 400gr to 2150fps for mild recoil. Another that strikes me as very practical is the 458American or 450Marlin in a compact bolt gun ... now that would be a fun gun! Cheers... Con

Tony,
What is that double? What did it start like out as, and how did it get to what it is now?

.375 cal. and up to me is considered a big bore, so the 375 H&H would be my favorite, followed closely by the 404 Jeffery.

I own a 375 H&H and being a lefty everything else I have to have built. I actually lust for one of Butch Searcy's 470 doubles.

The .416 Rigby, I'd say. Only bad one I've ever shot was a DREADFUL Ruger of some description, and even that was minute of buffalo at 75m.
A properly proportioned .416 remains almost a pleasure to shoot, and most I've come accross are ridiculously accurate...

.375 cal. and up to me is considered a big bore, I agree. Out of all my big bores the one I shoot the most and have the most fun with are my two .450 Marlins. A Win. M70 and a Ruger No.1. Lawdog

My slug gun was built as such from the start. Never was anything but a slug gun. Note the sights, relieved rib between them, engraved boar, etc, are all original. It's perectly regulated with the 1 oz Brenneke SP's at 55 yards. Pair after pair will stay inside 2" and land right on top of the front sight. It's called the Jabali slug gun bulit by Ugartechea in Spain. I have a handful of other "Uggie" SxS's, all of them rather fine guns.

Good luck finding one. I have only seen two and both were in Texas. One was priced at $1950 outside Dallas, I gave $450 for mine in Houston. I am told that one should expect to pay $1500-2000 for one. I was recently offered an AYA hand detachable sidelock 20 bore as a trade and turned it down. And those AYA's are very nice guns.

I suppose my handle gives my preference away I like the versatility of the 45 bore, due to selection of componet bullets and bullet molds, and the ability to load down to 45 colt pistol levels, or load up to serious full patch boogy with 500's leaving the muzzle at 2300 fps. I have backed down to 500's at 2200, as they are a bit more comfortable to shoot, and do the trick.
I'm a huge fan of 35's as well, though consider them medium bores, not big bores.

Mebbe I'm locked into a closet, but my favorite big bores are an 1895SS 45/70 and my Sharps 45/110. Those have big holes down the pipe.

My favorite big bore? Hmmmm... Love the 416 Rigby...betcha couldn't tell, eh? I have another #1 in 500 Nitro Express 3 1/4" and it's a whole lot of fun, too. That double is very cool. Is it fully rifled?
