Just bought a 94 XTR AE, 307 Winnie, and was wondering if anyone has some handloads that work good for them.

I realy enjoy my Winchester.
A favorite load for shooting small groups from the bench is the 130 grain flat nose Speer bullet ahead of 44.5 grains of IMR 4064 (2628 fps the last time I chronographed it). This group will sometimes shoot three shots inside one inch at one hundred yards. This does not happen every day but often enough to keep me coming back.

A favorite hunting load for deer is the Speer 170 grain bullet ahead of 40.0 grains of IMR 4064 (2338 fps from my 20 barrel). This is a very good hunting load.

The 150 grain Barnes X bullet gives exceptional accuracy in my rifle. The best load for this bullet is 43.0 grains of Alliant Reloder 15 for 2551 fps. This is an exceptional load for both accuracy and killing power.

A load that is hard to beat is the 170 grain Speer bullet ahead of 43.0 grains of Alliant Reloder 15. This load runs around 2460 fps depending on the day. The load gives good accuracy.

The 170 grain Speer bullet holds together well at .307 velocities. The Sierra is a little light in its construction. The Hornady 170 grain bullet has too large a meplat and must be seated deeper in the case. This requires a little heavier powder compression and is not worth the effort.

I load the 150 and 170 grain bullets to 2.550, the Barnes X to 2.500. The 130 grain Speer to 2.545. I substitute Winchester, CCI, Remingon and Federal primers in all loads without diffculty.

After you have worked with the 170 grain bullets and Reloder 15 then compare it with 43.0 grain of Hodgdon Varget. This will give you about the same velocity and on some days a little better accuracy.

The .307 is my favorite deer hunting cartridge and rifle combination. I certainly enjoy the package. Given a 6 inch target circle and 150 yard zero you have about a 180 yard max point blank range (3 inches low at this distance). A distance well beyond my normal deer hunting range.
