I just picked up my first pre-64 Winchester 94. It is in the serial number gap during WWII, 85%.

I had always dismissed the loose nature of the 94 to an inferior design. My 92's were always so comparitively precision.

This rifle is amazingly well put together with a tight lockup that snaps into place like a 92.

Ok, so now I get the infatuation with pre-64 manufacture.

You're a step ahead of me. I've never had a 92, but love the 94s.

I have read that the M94 was purposely built looser, at least when the lever was worked, to aid its operation in dirty environments. I have both 94s and an original 92. The action on the 92 is nicer, but I have never had a good 94 miss a beat.
