Anybody have an idea for a ball park price for an older Mark X in decent shape? It's a .270 that a friend of my wifes inherited when her dad passed away. She asked me what she should consider selling it for and I'd like to see her get a fair price.
Thanks,
Jeff

That's going to be a tough one, Jeff. I've seen them advertised from $250.00 to $850.00. Of course asking price and selling price are two different animals.
It will probably depend on what the guy wants it for. MY GUESS would be about $350.00 to $375.00 for the rifle.
Anybody who just wants the action is not going to pay more than $250.00, or else he would buy a Charles Daly. The Daly guns are not selling real well right now, and I can usually get one for about $300.00 locally. About $50.00 less for just an action.
Probably not the definitive answer you were seeking, but is the best I can do. And I'm a mauser nut! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Don

Price depends on when the Mark X was built, caliber, the quality of wood, grade and style. For example, the Marquis had better wood, checkering, grip cap, forend cap, etc. Then there was the Marquis Mannlicher.
Yours sounds like an older one, probably with good wood. $400 is a fair price for one that has been taken care of.

Most of the nice ones I see in retail gun shops are around $350.

I forgot to mention that you should ask her if it has a scope on it. If it has a nice Leupold, redfield , burris etc. scope, the scope couild be worth a couple hundred bucks.

I would think you could get $300 to $350 under the right conditions. Now with hunting season on and everybody that is getting a rifle has got one, could be the low end of that. After hunting season you might be looking at holding it for a while to get that. If it has a scope determine what it is around here the used scopes go for about half for what they go for new. Going to be a tough market til spring if the price isn't sharp. That said it's easier to go down than to come up, BUT you've got to make it interesting enough to get them to come look at it. If you are thinking of buying it, then I would lean toward the higher just because that's how I deal with people I know. Don't need hard feelings later. Who knows it may be all beat up and those prices are high. Get her to bring it over so you can visually describe it over the net and you'll probably get a "more educated guess."

Sounds like you have some knowledge of the different Interarms Mark X's. I have one in .270 with a Mannlicher stock, reasonably nice wood, checkered grip and forestock, and a grip cap. Could it be the Marquis Mannlicher you mentioned? Is there some other feature(s) which would identify it as such, and where does this model fit in value wise compared to the other Mark X's?

Jeff I'd have to believe something in the $300 to $350 range.

icedog, If your Mark X carbine has really nice wood and set triggers, it is probably a Marquis. If it has a single trigger, it is probably also a step down in wood grade, too, but not necessarily.
There was an issue of Rifle or Handloader last year with an article on the 7x57 that used a Marquis mannlicher stocked carbine and has some photos. I will try to find the date and issue number, and see if I have a digital photo to send you.
There just happens to be one for sale... Mark X "Marquis". Category: Interarms Rifles, GA#: 976497811. Model: Mark X "Marquis", Seller #: Price: $550.00, Seller: Murrays Guns ... httpL//www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976497811.htm

Many thanks for the info. Mine has just a single trigger, so I guess it is a step down from the Marquis. I will have a look at the one on Gunsamerica to see how it compares. When most of the common hunting rifle world consists of Remingtons, Winchesters, Rugers, and the like, finding info on some of the others can be tricky.

There is an Interarms Mark X mannlicher in 243 on GB that claims to be a marquis, but it doesn't have high grade wood, DST, or a flat bolt handle. I have seen 3 grades of Interarms Mark X mannlichers, all of which have had a mix of attributes.

The nicest Marquis Viscount I ever saw was a .270 with flat bolt handle and double set triggers, for $700.00.

I have owned a couple of Interarms Mark X mannlichers with DSTs and flat bolt handles. I hate DSTs on hunting rifles, so I swapped them out, and I hate the Interarms flat bolt handles as the are too sharp and lift too high, so I cut them off and replaced them with convensional bolt handles from Brownells. I've yet to own an Interarms Mark X with wood that was anything special, so I guess that I've never owned a Marquis grade.

This is the Mark x international like 260remguy was referring to. Note the high scope rings needed to clear the bolt handle. The stock is representative of evey mark x stock I've ever seen. They are generally finished with sort of stain/poly mix that is very plain. However, if this rifle had been a 7x57 instead of a .243 I'd still own it. Weagle

Also be aware of regional price variations -- I bought a regular (probably fairly early) .30-06 for $300 a few years ago at a Virginia gun store; soon after I was in New Mexico in a generally comparable type of store and saw similar guns in worse condition for $400 plus.
On the other hand, Winchester Model 12s that would sell for $500 in Virginia were going for $350 in NM.

My Interarms Mark X in 260 is that rifle's twin, except for the flat bolt handle, DSTs, and factory barrel having been replaced. I can't understand why anybody would put a high-lift bolt handle on a stalking rifle.
The 7x57 Mark X that Weagle sold to me last year is installed in a similar Interarms mannlicher style stock, but with a different checkering pattern, not skip-line, and with a raised cheekpiece.

260remguy,
When did the .260 come out and when did Interartms go out of business? I never knew that they made one in .260.

I think 260remguy has a .260 barrel screwed onto every make of rifle ever manufactured including a savage 99 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
