Every good party deserves a theme. So, for Iditarod 2012, theme food would obviously be "Dog Food!"

Here is one of the teams, on their way down Cordova Street. Part of the ceremonial start. Snowy day here, but it doesn't stop the crowds from participating in full force.

Now for the food, my contribution....

The label said, "May contain moose"

Yummy meatloaf baked in tomato sauce cans. Custom labels, of course, and the dog dish serving bowl was brand new, never touched by doggie lips. All in good fun!

How many hours of daylight do you have up there in Alaska right now? I'm curious...

Here is where I go for that sort of information. It's cool. For example, it lets me know January 26 was the day we started gaining over 5 minutes a day! (When you're lookin' for a reason to celebrate!) smile

If I ever made meatloaf the same two times, I might actually have a recipe. This one was about 2 lbs ground moose, about 2 dinner rolls made into crumbs, 2 eggs, about 2 Tbs worchestershire sauce, chopped onion, about 2 teasp. dried basil, maybe about 1/8 cup katsup and about 1/4 cup or more of parmesan cheese. I baked it in the tomato sauce cans for about 50 minutes and added the labels after I took them out of the oven.

I'll show this to Faith -- she'll get a charge out of it. She's headed to Nome Saturday morning to help them finish the race -- mostly helping the dogs, truth to tell. She loves helping the dogs, for sure.

I don't have very much moose meat laying around right now so I'll just have to try it with plain old hamburger. But cooking it in a tin can is a new one on me. Sounds fun!.

I've been cooking my meat loaf in muffin tins for some time now. It cooks faster and the portions are already made. So I thought the cans would be an easy thing to do, and they were. I did spray the inside of them with Pam, though.
