I took my new 6-06 out for the 1st time last weekend and fired about 15 loads just to get an idea of where MVs were with starting loads based from looking at 240wby, 6/284, and a few loads others were using. I ended up with MVs in the 243Win-6Rem range, but it was a good start.

Today I planned to head to the range around lunch, but a hail storm blew in followed by pouring rain, so I waited around for it to slack off. Made it out around 2pm and it hadnt rained a drop at the range. Didn't have much time, but managed several groups. Would have rather let her cool down properly, but at least I found several good loads to build on and MVs are starting to come around. No pressure signs at all, so she's still got a little throttle left in her. She walked on #4 for nearly every group, but the bbl was getting quite warm after 3. She'll probably do a bit better when I have time to do it right. Cooler weather prob wouldnt hurt either.







Not too shabby for hunting pills. She might come to life with match pills. I think it's definitely a keeper.

Not yet, just picked up a few boxes of pills at BPS.

I have a few 90 Swift SC2s and 80g Berger MFBs that Dirtfarmer gave me to try. I'll prob end up buying a few more to tinker with. 105 Hybrids sound interesting and maybe the Amax as well. I may give it another run when the next cool snap blows in, but it's getting a bit close to turkey season. I'll prob switch into turkey mode for a bit pretty soon.

My 6.5-06 should be here soon, so I'll have another to tinker with before long.

I've got a .243 Win & am working on a 6mm Rem... either of which might need punchin' out... !

I think you need to find the max on all of your charges and then work back down to find best accuracy. Seat bullet touching lands.

I'm chuckling at your targets... they say 80*... It hasn't broke 25* here in weeks...

anywho your ES with RL 17 looks promising.

Don't know how you have it twisted but the 105's might make it shine. They hunt too ya know ;-)

I don't think we made 20s for lows hardly any this winter. Fall, winter, and spring are nice down here, but the summers sure suck with the humidity.

It's a 9 twist, so the 105s oughta work.

Regarding your rifle, I'd think the 105's would be swell.

The 85 gr NPT's look like they want to play. A little playing with the seating depth and you may be able to cut her to .25 or so.
That many sub 1" groups tells me she ain't going to be too fussy about what you feel her.

RL-17 looks good...

I could live with the little 85 NPT for critters. Going to step up the R17 a touch and see if it stays together. 3550-3600 with that pill should be a salty deer load.

Going to order some 105 Amaxes and see how they perk. R25 or 7828 should get them moving.

My .240 HS Precision really likes NPT 85's with 50 grs. Big Game at 3,550 fps. I shot one sub inch, three shot group at 200 yds. JB had written something about the Nosler guys telling him that sometimes NPT's group better with faster powder. This load is an old Barnes load using their now discontinued blue coated 85 gr. bullets. My gun shoots this load with no signs of pressure.

This is my go to load for whitetails and hogs, at least for now.

I have built 4, one for me and 3 for friends, and all really shine when you go a little slower with the powders. I'm glad you are having success with RL17, it's been my favorite for many other loads. I've had great luck with VV N560/std primers/85TTSX
and Magnum/100 Partitions. I reform WW 25-06 brass and have a 26"
Kreiger 1-10 twist, can shoot 95VLD's at 3500 and stabilize them, ahile the 85's hit 3660 and 100's at 3400. My friend Greg used the latter load in Wyoming for 2 antelopes(250yd & 450yd, 1 shot ea.) and a mule deer(40yd). I used the 85 TTSX the previous year for my antelope at 350. You are gonna love the performance!

I lapped some Talley LW lows and mounted a ZC 4.5-14x44. Also polished the box, follower, lips, and ramp for buttery smooth feeding.

Should be a dandy whitetail rig.

Reloader: While I view mine as a long range varmint rig, as I built it with a 28" Sendero Countour Pac-Nor Super Match Stainless, I am very satisfied with the performance I have been getting with the 87 grain Hornady HPBT at around 3700fps. Try IMR4831, and also Reloader 22. I have had many one hole groups with both.
