New to ARs here and have a question. I am going to put a free float tube on my AR and was wondering what the thinking is on whether to get one with holes/slots in it or one that is just a tube that's open only on the end? I don't anticipate trying to burn the barrel up, but speculation tells me that I would be better off with a forend that lets the barrel cool better. Is it an issue I should be concerned with, or not? Thanks.

The aluminum free float tubes tend to be heavy. The slots lighten them up a bit. Unless you are doing mag dumps, heat is probably not an issue.

Ok, that's what I wasn't too sure about. Thanks.

How rigid are those vented AL float tubes? Can they withstand significant sling pressure?

You'd have to be a gorilla to cause any problems by cinching down on an aluminum free float tube.

I figure you'd know... I ordered the Yankee Hill Smooth Quad Rail that's vented. Thanks.

How do you feel about recommending a muzzle brake? I know some people hate them.
