I'd vote for something I haven't yet ordered unless it's a retroactive discount.

Giveaways as a special?
Hmmm, that works...
How about a free axe to each Campfire Kahuna?
1/2 price of the axes to everyone registered at the 'Campfire before you got here?
Combination of the two?
Last I knew celebrating campfire status was silly in some people's minds. But I'm all for expecting an axe in my future when I hit Kahuna Status.. I'm ordering the Gransfors Bruks Wildlife Hatchet for my oldest for xmas. He's gonna love it.

Elf,
Exellent choice. I have the Mini, but am thinking that I'd like to give something a little larger to myself.

I have the Wildlife hatchet and the Hunters Axe. The Wildlife hatchet stays in my vehicle at all times for general use. I haven't used the Wildlife hatchet yet to skin an animal but plan to try. I found that either is far faster than a saw for removing small to medium size branches while pruning trees, prepping a stand site etc.. I plan to by the Scandanavian forest axe in case I need to fell a tree instead of just trimming limbs.................DJ

Walker: Sorry to be late in replying -- I don't have as much time to visit here as I would like. Now that you mention it, I think Anders' last name was Sjdin or Sundin -- it started with an "S" sure. He would have been in his forties, I think. It is interesting to read all the positive posts above regarding these axes. I'm no expert, but they feel well-balanced to me and I think there is great satisfaction in using a tool that was made one at a time by a skilled worker in a traditional way. There are many other small smiths that make knives of our local Swedish steel, but not so many axe makers. I can't decide between the Hunter's Axe and the Wildlife Hatchet... so I think I will visit the smithy down the road and get them to make me a hybid. I want the Wildlife Hatchet head with skinning poll (I help skin about 7 moose a year, and it really works!), but I want the short handle of the Hunter's Axe so it will fit in my pack. Cheers from Sweden, John I've chatted with one of the makers (Anders something) and he clearly took pride in his work. Hi John, Might that be Anders Sjodin? I've become a big fan of the Gransfors Bruks outfit and their products, and would give my left whatchamacallit for an opportunity to tour the forge! Some day, maybe. My parents toured the Jonsered saw factory while on vacation in Sweden years ago, but somehow missed out on the GB operation. I consider my GB axes (especially the "Hunter's Axe" and the "Scandinavian Forest Axe") to be among my most cherished and best designed pieces of outdoor gear. The pride taken in their production is obvious. They are a real pleasure to use, and are heirloom quality tools, if you ask me. If an axe comes back with a defect, he said the other blacksmiths razz the culprit pretty badly! That just makes my day! Thanks.

I want the Wildlife Hatchet head with skinning poll (I help skin about 7 moose a year, and it really works!), but I want the short handle of the Hunter's Axe so it will fit in my pack. I hear ya, I think. I've found the Hunter's Axe (the 19-incher) to be great choice for canoe camping, where I can keep it in a pack basket or in a big rucksack, and it's compact enough to tote along on a 4-wheeler, ..... but it's a no-go in most daypacks, unless lashed to the side. I have yet to skin a moose, but still prefer the rounded flaying poll to the flat poll, even for general use. A rounded poll is much kinder to the insides of the pack and its contents, and they look better, too, IMO. When I need something to pound with, I prefer to use the hatchet to quickly make a suitable club. I see no need to risk deforming the eye, and loosening the handle in the process. Good luck with your project. I hope Gransfors Bruks picks up on that idea! (The "Hunter's Hatchet"!) Wouldn't mind seeing a picture of it, if you get the chance.
