Picked up my first full custom action today - a Pierce. I have a Jewell to go on it. The action didn't come with trigger pins, nor did the trigger. Where is the best place to get the pins? Any traps for novice players?

1/8"x3/4" dowel pins should work.

Cut some out of an old drill bit shank, or call Pierce and have them send you some!

All new custom actions should come with trigger pins IMO. Check with your local gunsmith, probably has a junk drawer full of them. I'd be sure they fit snug also.

Thanks everyone. I got an email from the importer of the action - Pierce don't supply the pins. Midway is out of stock, so I will chase some down from a local engineering supplier, now that I know what to ask for.

Remington pins are 1/8", the front is .720" long and the rear is .860"'
when Remington in their wisdom, thought us peons couldn't be allowed to have access to trigger pins, i bought some 1/8" drill rod stock from Brownell's and made my own.
or you could buy two of the rear pins from Midway (they are in stock) and shorten one to .720"
if you do make your own, use good steel, as the rear pin could take a good hit when the bolt hits the bolt stop.

The Pierce has a side bolt release so I think I will need two of the 0.720" length ones. I found an engineering firm which lists 3/4" long dowel pins which should do the job like Doc Ed said above.

I measured the trigger hanger in the action tonight. Looks like 5/8" long pins are going to be the best fit.
Thanks again everyone for the advice.

If finding pins is such an inconvenience I can't imagine Pierce not providing them. There's a red flag flying on my pole.

Well, you didn't mention it had a trigger hanger! Sorry Doc, I may have used the wrong term there - it has a slot milled into the bottom of the action similar to a Rem 700, but without the bolt stop/release slot. I will try to post a pic. Ctsmith - it didn't even occur to me that they wouldn't supply the pins. I live and learn once again.

A trigger hanger is a separate piece, usually aluminum, that can be removed from the action.

Jason: What dimension pins do you need. I've got a couple extra from my Borden Alpine.

Thanks Grand, but I am all sorted now. Picked some up from an engineering supply place yesterday. I appreciate the offer though.
Regards, Jason
