When I shoot a 165gr bullet is out of a 30-06.
Aim for the exit hole.

I ran 165/168 stuff from a long-throated 26" 300WM with 81-82gr of IMR7828 for 3,250-3,325 fps. This was right at a max load according to a Speer manual at the time. My OAL was bumping 3.6" and filled the mag-box while getting just off lands (700 Sendero).
Now with even more aplomb

I used 72.0 of IMR4350 load was running 3145 fps out of my Rem 700 BDL. Load shot good, but switched to the Sierra 165 GK's for a little better expansion on our smaller deer around here at AT&T ranges.

My old M70 with SS Krieger was set up the same way...vels with 165 NPT and BBC were about the same. When the BBC was use at that velocity, elk and Canada whitetails did not like it....crunch.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.

My rifle likes 74/IMR 4350 w/ a Nosler 165 gr Accubond, WW brass, Fed 215 primer, runs about 3225 fps. It's max, work up to it.

GF1: 300's and 165's for deer is almost like not playing fair But you still have to hit them right.

Yup, but it's pretty easy to hit with w/o a bunch of measurin' and figuring'.
Don't recall killing one too dead, and I kinda like the rifle.
