Well got up to a place that, last year, was full of gobblers gobbling their heads off and this year, nuthin'.

Arrived before dawn the first day and heard an owl, while gearing up and no gobble. Next day, big ole loud crow at 6:15 and no gobble. Needless to say, the slate did nuthin', too.

My buddy did call in a few jakes to his decoys, came in silent and he dropped one.

Talked to several hunters and not one could get a gobble in the AM or PM. Can't figure this one. Two or three weeks ago we had some really hot weather, then got unseasonably cold (?).

Saw alot of lone hens throughout the day crossing roads and trails.

So, I don't know if they will get active now or if they peaked already. I know I saw a bunch at Easter going crazy with all the struttin' and gobblin'.

But, I'll tell you that jake tasted good! Good or better than any T'givin' tooky I ever had.

Have to wait ' til the fall to join the club.

Regards, sse
