hey everbody ,i just got done reading the most recent issue of fur fish and game and read a short article on savage's new take on the model 24 rifle/shotgun combo guns,it's called the model 42 appears to have seperated barrels and synthetic stock and while it dosen't have the eye appeal of the model 24's if it shoots reasonably well it should be a hit,no mention of when they will be avalible or caliber/gauge

They don't even have it listed under the new products for 2012 on the website.

It's there, Joe. We'll see if the image copy works. Kind of fugly, imho. Will appeal to the black rifle group probably. Says it's a 22/410 combination. Edit: Also lists a 22 WMR/410 version.

Whoever is in the design dept in there nowadays should be shot and pissed on, who thinks this crap up?
What the heck is the problem with using nice wood these days instead of the tupperware crap?
I'd pay $1000 for a real nice 1950's model 24 before I'd pay $100 for that bastardised pretty-boy gun.

Maybe the designer of the new Mossberg lever action did a little moonlighting for Savage?

Maybe the designer of the new Mossberg lever action did a little moonlighting for Savage? I so much thought this rifle was just a made-up joke that I had to google it. Sure enough - it is the real deal . I don't know if I have ever seen anything so ugly. It's an abomination. If this is what the younger people are buying I have nothing in common with them.

It would be a stunningly bad nightmare if Savage re-introduced the M99 but brought it back in this format.... I don't know if I could let myself fall asleep again.

Those guns, but certainly not Pamela's, are gross.

I might would buy one of those for a "yard" gun , but I wouldn't take it out where people could see it. Wonder what real world retail is ? Mike

I would consider this more of a "bury in the yard gun." Rod
