I'm confused about serial nos. with letter prefixes (A955xxx) compared to the "C" models with bigger serial nos. Whats the sequence of mfg. Also, the A955 does not have a lever boss code. I have used a hand lens and it is not there. Is this normal?

After 1969 they didn't use the lever boss codes. From 1948 to 1969 is when they used the lever boss codes. Les

1970 was the last year for lever boss codes.

Alphanumeric serial numbers were begun in 1969. Lever boss codes were discontinued after 1970. The A-prefixed serial numbers were made from 1969 up through about 1973. Yours was made around 1972 or so.

I knew. Saw it on some old post here in the forum. And I thought you posted it.

I call it a "half-fro."

Actually, Johnny... to clarify a point, I was the one who posted the list of Lever Boss Codes. I never saw anyone else in this Forum post the complete List from A (1949) through X (1970) inclusive.

In truth, Les (Violator22) knows the dates Savage used the Lever Boss Codes because I gave him my List (the same List I posted here many times) a few months ago for his use elsewhere. I can't explain why he substracted a year from both ends of the List (a "typo"?)... but if that's the worst mistake he ever makes, then he is, indeed, a lucky man.

Hence my use of the phrase "I thought." That's my disclaimer.

I have no idea why you felt it was important to discuss an item from another thread that is hardly germane to this discussion. Should I go and edit my reply in the other thread to give properly give credit? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
