I had quite forgotten! "A penny for the Guy!" (referring to the hapless effigy we little 'uns would wheel around. And bonfires of old wood scrap with people gathered around, Guy Fawkes being burned in effigy yet again. Sparklers, rockets and bangers, chilly evenings and the once-a-year smell of burned gunpowder.
Amazing, they would let kids like us barely big enough to reach the counter buy all sorts of minor explosives <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Hard to imagine it is still like that in the England of today.
