I finally dug this out of the back of the safe. It has very clean blue, all original sights, wood is probably 90%, forearm is bedded and I cannot get it to come off. It has the brass cartridge counter on the side and looks to be factory drilled and tapped. The rear stock has a surface crack/chip at the rear of the tang. Aluminum looking butt plate. Any kind of estimate as to what it would be worth? I am planning on mounting a 2.5 Weaver on it and using it next fall for deer or antelope. Thanks

The Model 99M is actually a Model 99DL. The "M" designation was only a production identifier to indicate that it was a model with a monte carlo stock. They were produced from 1960 to 1973 and were ALL factory D&T'd for scope mounts.

Value is subjective, but I wouldn't expect more than between $300 and $400 in the condition you describe. Provided an interested buyer could be found.

Thanks for the replies. I will try to attach a couple of photos. I thought that the 99M on the barrel, meant that it was a "M". It does have the monte carlo stock, so it must be the DL. Here are the photos.[Linked Image]

Nice looking rifle. Let us now how it shoots.

Excellent condition! It looks like it's an early one with the 24" barrel. The trigger is supposed to be much better on these too - per Murray anyway. I've seen several post mills with very decent triggers.

I really like it, guess it helps that it is a 308. Les

The trigger is actually pretty nice on this one and I never had any work done to it. I worked on the barrel last night and it shows really good rifling with no issues. I just bought a Leupold 2x7 compact scope and it might have to go on this one. It shot 165 grain ballistic tips into less than an inch when I shot it about 10 years ago. At least the last group was that tight. This forum has really gotten me excited about shooting it again. Thanks for all the information guys.

The DL is the most accurate of any 99 I have fired. The .308 is the round I use as well. Congrats on an outstanding deer rifle. Take care of it so your kids can use it one day.
