Another idea is to find an old shot out .222.223 bolt gun. I have a 70's vintage M-700 in .222 that's now a .204. A 26" PacNor did the trick. That thing is so a accurate with factory ammo, that I bought ten boxes and have yet to handload, although I do have the dies, bullets, etc. all ready to go.
So far, I've turned most of my .204 brass into .22-204 and spend more time playing with that one.

I say YES! And to Dirtfarmer.......you HAD to bring up the .22-204 again, knowing I am fully invested in the .223AI....

At least I'm not trying to insult you, talking about .270's... So, on that note, I was sorta being nice... DF

Over the last year I have had more fun with my 204 popping ground squirrels. That sucker blows them up right now! All to be viewed thru the scope as it kicks none.

If I decide to get a .204 it'll be a CZ or Savage.
Wish Ratsmacker would get on here soon. He's done a lot of shooting with a .204 and really likes it.
He went over yonder way

. We ended up having to turn around and coudlnt go any further up the road because rocks were being blown into the wind shield. It was 80-90mph sustained and 135 mph gust that day. Confirmed from a weather station about 5 miles away. That's a hurricane without the waves. Cool video

Would a Rem 788 in .222 be a good donor action for a .204 or would the COAL be too much for the magazine?

I had a 788 with a shot-out .222 barrel rebarreled to .223 and it worked fine. The maximum factory OAL length for the .204 is the same as the .223.

Was out in Cody last June for a shoot. First day after sight in we showed up and the plywood backers which had been screwed into PT 2x4s on steel frames were gone. Like maybe in the next county. They called the meet that day and I was disappointed in that. I know for a fact I can shoot as bad as anyone in that kind of wind. Gustin' over 50 they said. Not as bad as the wind we get down here in the fall sometimes mind you, but I'll grant it's tough to pour PB down a barrel in wind like that.
I am..........disturbed.

My .204s both seem to like the lighter bullets better than the heavyweights, although the Sierra 39s shoot pretty good in the heavy-barrelled Savage I shoot rats with. I decided to stick with the 32s, simply because they're easier to find around here, the 39s shoot so well everyone buys up all they see..........
That said, some .204s just won't shoot the 40 Hornadys well, mine don't. I suspect that factory twist rates are not set in stone, but just vaguely "in the neighborhood". I DO know that some of the .204 users on .204ruger.com have checked the twist rates of various brand rifle barrels and found that some were 1-12.25" and not 1-12s, and those rifles simply won't shoot the 40 Hornadys well. If a rifle DOES like that bullet, it flat-out loves it, if not, it'll keyhole like mine does. Mine will shoot the 40 Noslers "okay" but not outstandingly well.
I like the big Salvage a lot, it'll shoot 32s like it has eyes. My little CZ 527 is plenty good with them, too. It's a lot of fun to carry around looking for coyotes, and it dumps them without any fuss at all.

My m700 204 won't shoot anything other than the 35gr Bergers. Tried Hornadys and Sierras of various weights, and no luck. The Bergers shoot lights out though.
