Well, I think I have decided that the Remington Core-Lokt Express 150gr shoot the best out of all the ammo I have tried, out of my Savage 99 .308 that I use for deer & Pig.

Lucky for me they are about the cheapest box of hunting rounds out there, but what am I giving up?

In the age of super bullets, is one making a sacrifice by using C-L-Express instead of C-L-Ultras?

I have killed my deer this year with a Sagage m99 in 243 loaded with the 100gr Cor-Lokts, I shot the lil blacktail high in the shoulder at 30 yards angleing downwards. The buck fell in its tracks how ever the bullet did not exit. Any ideas?

I have used 130 gr. core-lokts in my 270 on deer and elk. I have no complaint at all. They go clear through deer and on the elk I found it just under the far side hide, picture perfect mushroom.

My hunting partners have killed several elk with just that load, including a nice cow this year. I can't speak about it past 300 yds or so, but in that range, it hammers deer, elk and antelope.

You'll find the extra money jingling in your pocket to be a distraction, compared to folks shooting the more expensive ammo, but you'll get used to it.

300 Win Mag plain 180 gr CoreLokt, 480yd bull moose, full penetration through ribs, one shot, elk 390 yds, full penetration through ribs upward through heart and out neck (uphill shot), one shot. Similar results 390yd bull moose, and two black bears< 50 yds. Plus perfect results on deer and sheep. Mountain goat at 200yds took 3 shots , all at shoulder and just behind, all full penetration, goats are tough! Happy with bullet. Killed one moose at 75yds with 338 Win Mag 225 Swift A-Frame, frontal shot, I suspect Core-Lokt may not have done the job as well.Tried a box of the ultra CoreLokts (or whatever they call them) not as accurate in my rifle, so back to the good cheap stuff.

My elk hunting partner uses the green box 180 gr CoreLokts exclusively in his old FN Browning '06 and he's batting 1000 with filling his tags. Not my choice but not a bad choice at all.

The only other factory load I tried that shot as well out of my 99 were some 165 Hornadys.

Cabelas has thge core-lokts for about $11 something a box, I guess I'll forget the super bullets and try these for a while.

I plan on starting to handload in a few years anyway, so these ought to work well until then.

Core-lokts have always worked good for me for deer and bears.

My 270 Win loves the 130 gr Core-Lokt above everything else I've tried. Not too sexy but it works. I just picked up 5 boxes from Dick's Sporting Goods today. They're on sale for $10.98/box which is less than I can get them for at cost.... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

You're shooting deer, right?

And just how many deer do you think fall each year to the .300 Savage/.308/.30-06 150 gr. load from Remington?

Yeah, about that many...

I'd suspect you have nothing to worry about except putting the first one where you need to and having a sharp knife.

Besides, when you start handloading, you'll have a ready supply of brass. I know my .270AI will, compliments of Rem. 130 gr. Corelokts. See posts in about 2 weeks for details re: accuracy. FYI - stellar for factory loads is my early on take.

I have used Remington corelokts for years, never had a problem with them. My .280 likes the 140 grain load, and it kills deer dead.
