I have been shooting 100 gr. Nosler Partitions in my .243 for a while now and Im happy with them. I read where others shoot the 95 gr bullets and was wondering. Is that because they shoot better in your gun or is there another reason? Just checking to see if Im missing something.

I always ran the 95gr version, although I doubt there can be much difference other than a gun's preference regarding accuracy. I think you are on the right track. Speed and terminal performance should be similar.

I have been shooting 95gr ballistic tips in my 243. Shoots a little faster, and never was a fan of partitions.

I would like to shoot 105's, but my twist is too slow, and the velocity dropped like a rock compared to 95's.

MANY years ago (mid-'70's?), I started using the 95 Partition in my .243 Win because at that time, if I remember correctly, the 100 gr. and 85 gr. Partition were semi-points with the relief groove. I'm guessing they were semi-points to ensure they would stabilize in .244's too.

I came up with a load of IMR 4350 that it really liked and never felt the need to do it again with the 100 gr. spitzer when it came out.

I have used both in my .240 Wby and they both shoot about the same.

I used the 95gr Partitions in my 243 rather than the 100gr for one simple reason.

The 100gr were always sold out, and the 95gr were always on the shelf.

Deer died just fine from the 95gr.

I shot a few boxes of Partitions long ago in a .243 and had trouble with accuracy and that rifle, so when I started messing with .243 again I tried the Barnes bullets (which to be fair were worse than the partitions back when). The first Barnes I tried were 85 grain TSXs that shot well under an inch once I figured out where to seat them. They killed deer just fine and always made two holes, even on pretty steep quartering shots. I found some older Barnes XLCs which were a transition bullet between the TSXs and the original X bullets, and the .243 I tried them in shot unreal small groups with them, but I never yet have tried them on deer.

For my money, after using .243s since they came out almost, The Barnes TSX 85 grain and the Barnes TTSX 80 grain bullets are the best thing that ever happened to this caliber. They are acurate. Bone doesn't phase them. They virtually always go all the way through from any angle. They tear up everything in the chest quite nicely.

95's shot better in my rifles with a 1-10 twist, and accuracy at 42.3-43.0g of IMR 4350 with a win primer was fantastic.

The 95 became popular when the 100s were a semi spitzer and Bob Hagel touted the 95s as longer ranging. Now I would guess the 100s have the advantage but won't use them till I run out of 95s.

Then there is the 95 Ballistic tip which turned my thinking around on plastic tipped bullets, they seem to be designed to increase the performance of the 6mm on Deer.

They all work well and one caliber I take Noslers over Barnes for the most part. But could have any of the above in the magazine at any given time.

+1... Bought 95's when I couldn't get 100's. They shoot MOA +/- in 4 or 5 different rifles in our family. Kill KY Whitetails just as dead. Never looked back...

what powder and load are you using on these?

If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.

Another vote for the 85 TSX to do it all. My son shot a doe with same in a 6mm/250 and it smacked her pretty good. 2 holes and DRT.

95gr NP
34.0 gr Varget
Fed Match 210
Rem Nickel Case
2.650" COAL

This load is middle of the road in the Hodgdon manual I have on hand. Can not remember actual chronograph speeds. Not a screamer. Just kills deer.
