I'm sure this has been harped on for awhile on the active component side of things, but this is somewhat new news for Army Reservist, at leats in my circle of contacts.

I read an article today in the NCO Journal concerning social media. Basically anything you say/post/take pictures of and so on online in places like facebook/myspace/twitter ect is EXACTLY the same as saying them in uniform on duty. They are covered and punishable under the UCMJ. Posting things on your 'private' facebook account such as: "SFC Snuffy is a total douche" is in affect the exact same thing as if you had said that in formation on duty.

Hell I am active duty and that is the first time I have heard that brought up. Then again I tend to use some common sense so maybe thats why I never thought about putting anything like that on my facebook page?

The full article is in the current NCO Journal, and is a reprint from the Ft. Benning newspaper. The Bayonet I believe it is called. It is a real problem with Reservists, most just do not understand the fact that they represent the Army 100% of the time weather in uniform or not.

I'd have to back and look at my initial enlistment papers, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't much mentioned about Facebook and Twitter in them. Of course, it was close to 20 years ago, and I could've forgotten by now... you know, being brain-washed and mind altered and all that stuff they did to me.

Then again, Algore was just working on inventing the internet back then too, just so that they could change the rules on us.
