I will have to get a new two person tent this year. I am thinking of REI quarter dome. Before I do that I thought I shoud put it out to the fire and see what others say.

I may use it for backpacking but most of its use will be motorcycle/car camping. I have a Eureka Spitfire 1 for when I hunt alone. I do not plan on winter camping. I like side entry tents. A small storage area would be nice.

I would like to keep it under 250. I think I should be able to get a good tent for that. I still like some of the eureka tents and they are not too spendy

If you aren't worried terribly about weight then I would go with the Eureka.

This tent is possibly the smallest 2 man tent made. IMO If you're taller than about 5'-8" you'll probably touch the ends when you lay down. I bought one, used it for one hunt. you best be camping with your woman too, two guys would be laying on top of each other.

There are so many tents to chose from. Look for the biggest lightest tent you can find. Big Agnes makes sweet tents, but they're a bit spendy.

I own an REI Quarter Dome T2, which I use for summer backpacking when I take the dog or my grandson along. I'm 5'-11" and I don't touch the ends. Two adults will fit and each person has his own door and vestibule but there's no extra room inside. It weighs less than 4# so when weight is important for a two person team, it works pretty good.

I would be cautious on the specs for a 2 man tent. In general, I've found that the phrase "room for 2" means 2 midgets. Since you're not really concerned about weight, I'd look at a 3 man tent. I have an MSR tent & love it. In addition, my major hunting partner has an MSR Hubba-Hubba and it's great as well. We've never had problems with MSR tents and on our sheep hunts, we're gone for a minimum of 2 weeks.
I'd lean towards an MSR, 3 man if I could find one.
Good luck.

I use a Tarptent Double Rainbow: http://www.tarptent.com/products.html

It's very light and packs down to about half the size of the REI 2-man tent I used to use. It fits two people who are about 5' 9" / 160 lb with room to spare. Backpacks stay pretty well protected under the doorways. Its season rating is "3+", though I haven't tested it in high winds yet. Just in case, I was able to attach extra guylines along the middle ridge pole.

You really should come by and at least check out the Shangri la 3 before you buy anything so you get a feel for the tipi concept. It's not for everybody but I think you will like the space to weight ratio alot.

Always get seam sealer and treat your tent before you go camping.

If you don't really think you'll be using it for backpacking, you'll have tons of options for that budget. For car/motorcycle camping, you might consider a 3 man tent if two of you will be sharing. No reason to pay the HUGE upcharge for lighter materials if you won't be carrying it on your back.

I'd be looking at a tarptent in that price range.

I have a GoLite Shangri-La 3. It's a "3 man" but 2 could be comfortable in it. I can go it solo, drag in pack, boots and spread out gear and be comfortable. It's lightweight and about perfect for backpacking IMO. Biggest negative, I don't like the center pole and given the right conditions (available trees) I'll tie the peak to an overhead limb and eliminate the center pole.

Having said that, if I were car camping with weight of little concern, I'd go for a bigger tent.

I will look at the go lite I sure like the idea. Cast and Blast I will take you up on looking at that one. If I go with a dome I should look at a three man my son is 2 and when we start camping a two man will not work. Some great ideas out there keep them coming

Just picked this tent up this year. Havent had a chance to use it in the field yet but I have set it up and the size is perfect for me (2 man tent). The reviews look great and it wont break the bank.

I have spent a few backpacking hunts in this tent as my brother has one and we have used. We have used the 3 person version, which I would recommend for two adults. Pretty sturdy, standard two pole tent. It has handled some pretty good storms just fine. One design flaw is that it has just one door, so you have to climb over each other if you get up in the night. Other than that, no complaints.
