I'm about to take the plunge and load some X boolets. Which do you guys like best, XLC or Triple shock? These will be loaded in a 7mm-08 for black bear. What weight? Can't decide on 140's (faster) or 160's a little slower. The Barns manual lists the 140 XLC at over 2900 FPS. Sounds like good bear "medicine" to me! Thanks for the help! Virgil B.

I like moly and the XLC coating is to my liking, though moly TSX's also shine.
140's are heaviest I'd use......................

Thanks, Stick! I was thinking 140 XLC... The Barns book lists it's fastest load with H380, and most accurate with Varget (100 fps slower) Midway is back-ordered on 140's, guss this will give me enough time to round up powder. I'm going to be shootin these out of a Ruger compact with a 16" barrel, so they's gonna to be a mite slower, but damn, I sure like packin this little rifle! Virgil B.

I have found the Triple Shocks to be accurrate in rifles that wouln't shoot the XLC.You wont need anything heavier than 140 gr.Frank

The Triple Shock is what the XLC wanted to be when it came out. The TSX reduces copper fouling and pressure while, for most users, increasing velocity and accuracy.
It wouldn't be surprising to see Barnes eliminate the XLC from their lineup.

I couldn't get the xlc to shoot in my rifles but the tsx is averaging 5/8" in both rifles that I have tried it in.Great velocity with no pressure signs and no copper fouling either.

I've loaded all of the Barnes variations and I have had them all shoot under an inch after some work but the Triple Shocks are by far better because of their immediate accuracy and performance. I would stay away fomr th XLC's just because of the amount of work it took to make them shoot and how fussy they were for me.
I really have to advise the HOT 140gr. TSX load pretty hard. You point that at anything and it going straight through, minus big brown/grizzly bears, and it will be very flat shooting.

XLC's I got tired of cleaning the moly coat blue out of the barrel. I since went to the Triple shocks, barrel is easier to clean. And great groups from both of the "boolets".

I could never get the regular "X"" bullets to shoot well in my rifles, the TSX's shoot as well as any cup and core bullet I've tried. My vote is for the TSX's.

Stubble ... I'm not sure why my rifle didnt like them ... perhaps it was the primers, or the fact that I had not cleaned the bore out in a while ... who knows?! I duplicated the loads, and will try them one more time, just to make sure. I might buy another 50 and try them in Lapua brass as well as once fired R-P brass, but using WLR primers instead of CCI ... If those don't shoot, I really won't care because there are a LOT of other bullets I also want to try ... like the A-Max ... and some match grade bullets ... Because as I said, I found a hunting load using the Interbonds ... and if they don't go downrange with accuracy, I'm sure that I can find something that will.

are the 215's the "magnum" type primers? and, when you say "large cases", I assume you mean .30-06 size and up ?

Without a doubt, TSXs.
Barnes is quietly discontinuing the XLCs in favor of the TSXs. Some XLCs are already gone, others will be as soon as demand tapers off some more. Why work up loads for a bullet that will probably be going away in the not-too-distant future?

No, I'm not a Ruger bigot - just an unabashed fan of their revolvers, M77's and #1's.
A good .30-06 is a 99% solution.
