I'm putting together a 375 Ruger Alaskan with a boat paddle stock and am considering scope options.
I'd like something with good eye relief (ideally over 3.5"), a nice sight picture/FOV, that is reliable and can handle recoil with good tracking. I'm thinking about a low fixed power like a 4x, a low variable like the Swaro 1.5-6x, or something else.
I'm also considering iron sights, but a scope is handy.
What do y'all think?
Thanks,
Eric

Can't go far wrong with a 4x33 Leupold. I wouldn't think most people would much care about tracking on a 375.. in my opinion its pretty much a set it and forget it kind of gun.

There are a few excellent choices. Have the 1.5-5x20 VX111 on my own Ruger Alaskan.
4x33 Leupy FX2 2-7x33 Leupy VX2 2-7x32 Vortex Viper 1-4x20 Nikon African 2-7x33 Redfield Revolution 2.5-8x36 Leupy VX3 1.5-8x32 Bushnell Elite 6500
For the Alaskan imo, a 36mm or less (preferably less) objective looks better.
All of the above scopes offer the durability and very good eye relief.

Eye relief:
VX3 1.5-5x20 - 4.4" to 3.7" (at 1.5 to 5 magnification) FX2 4x33 - 4"
Both look like good options. I hear the VX3 is brighter.

Go to Leupold and order one of the new 3X's with the sight of your choice. It's running 3.4X, unlike the early "3X", which is a 2.7X in reality. Designed by some people at Leupold who have some clues, and validated by a couple of writers who share the outlook. I have a 4X on my .375 Ruger, but it's largely because the new 3X didn't exist when I put it together. My .404 Jeffery has an old version of the 3X, and it seems to work pretty well too. One day soon I'm going to buy a couple of new 3X's, just because... Dennis

Swaro Z6 1.7X10X42. In terms of flexibility and optical excellence there;s just nothing better

Schmidt & Bender 1.5-6x42, with QD rings. That's what I have on my Model 70 and would love to kill a cape buffalo with it. See what you think. donsm70

While there are other fine choices, I have a Leup 4x33 on my Ruger African in Talley QD rings. I find it fairly easy to see and hit an elk-sized "vitals" gong at five hundred yards with it.

I wasn't aware that Leupold made a 3X. Is that a custom shop option?
Don - Beautiful rifle!!
I was leaning towards a 4X but there are a lot of good options here!
Thanks everyone. The pics are very helpful, too.

I didn't see anything on the Talley site for Ruger QD rings. I have a Viper 2-7x32 ready for my LH Alaskan but thought that Warne's were my only QD choice.

Eric Yes it is...has been out for a year or two. Very easy to deal with and wide open to desires. And, as I noted, the new version is a 3.4X, which could be pretty close to perfect. Dennis

You want something that you can shoot both eyes open if need be - which means around 1.5x at the bottom end tops. A German n.o. 4 reticle helps, and illuminated would also be nice. Up to about 6x is going to be useful. The little Minox Z5 1.5-8 x32 is a great scope for the money.

Bigsqueeze, do you have more room with your VX3 1.5-5x20
Wyoguide - what's the objective diameter on that Kahles 2-7? Does it have good ER?

2.5-8x32 Conquest on my African, wish I could get another for my Hawkeye RSI 308, much better scope than the 2-7 Vortex Viper it wears now.
