Fellows, please commiserate. My local Walmart is having a sale - scoped, synthetic Win 70 in various calibers is $300! Wood stocked Weatherby in 300 Wby is $300! I am out of gun money... this is not pleasant <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I can't feel sorry for you. Try living in the People's Republic of Kalifornia where Wallyworld doesn't sell guns.

Wally World will let you lay a way the rifle. Just nibble away at it for 90 days.

I lucked out and found a Howaby Vanguard in 300WBY Magnumb at my Wally-World marked down to $299. The barrel has a inky-dinky 1/4" scratch. Nothing a little Oxpho-Blue won't fix.
Layaway is a wonderful thing.


I'll tell you what. When I go up to the gravel pits to try my Howaby out, I'll pop off a couple rounds for you too.

BTW, which one would you guys pick? I have a 308 and 30-06-equivalents already, but not in these models. There's room in the safe for a couple more rifles, but not in our wifes' opinion.

Paul, what town is the Wal-Mart with the Winchester sale located? I think that any Wal-Mart is obligated to match the price of another Wal-Mart, so if your local WM has Win 70 WSSMs on sale for $300, I can ask my local WM to confirm the sale price and buy it here in Omaha for $300.

Jeff ... Wally's won't match other Wally's prices, just their competitors. Now that Academy is out of M700 ADL's for $314, Wallys here jacked their prices back up to $368.

Watch it Kaiser - I said "our wives' ", not "wife's", there's a difference <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I think we all know exactly what I mean, eveybody's been there. But it was fair game I admit.
WM store number is 0905 in Longmont, CO. But I doubt matching will work, I was at another WM the other day and theirs are the same as always, $398 for Model 70s and $400+ for wood stocked Wbys, I still think there's a mistake on the tag at the Longmont store. I am pretty sure it is their sporting goods department manager's decision to put sale prices up.
It is awfully tempting, I have to say. If only I have not spent over $1000 on guns this year already... 300 Wby does sound good! Not to one's shoulder though, I heard. Never fired one. Also heard they have accuracy problems.

I bought one of those vanguards last year for $250 at WM, it was a synthetic though. I also had a friend who put a shotgun that was on clearance on layaway, and I guess the computer showed it still in inventory so they kept droping the price on it till it sold, by the time he bought it the droped it another $100 or better.

Checked again today. M70 is gone. Wby is still there. The clerk told me that it is Vanguard Sporter that WM won't carry anymore, so they are on sale. The one on display is the only one... You might want to ask at your local WM.
