What is your guess on mils?
In actual use, I would like to swing that scope just a bit for a more accurate guess, none of the dots are placed just right, height or length of the sheep.

I was guessing .5 or .6 mils. But I know Jordan is a freaking genius and his guess was 610 so I'd like to know where that estimation came from.

Without knowing a few things, it's just a SWAG! First of all, is the scope FFP? If not, is it set at the correct magnification so that the mildots represent true mils? Second, what is the actual back-to-brisket dimension of the ram lined up on the reticle? I tend to like MOA, so I simply convert to MOA when doing these things. That sheep is about 0.6-0.75 mil (assuming the mag is correct), back to brisket, so about 2-2.5MOA. If I take a dimension of 14-16" back to brisket, since those two sheep on the vertical cross wire don't look overly large, then that would give somewhere around 610 yards. If the sheep's dimension is 18", and it subtends 0.6 mils, then it would put them at 872 yards. If it's 20", then 968 yards. Just a WAG without more info.

I would say they are well over 1,000 yards if they are on the top distant bench. What scope is that Pat? I don't know how you ever hit anything. Your scope is crooked Flinch

hehe ...
Chest of an avg. Sheep is 22" ( at least that's what I use.)
I est. about .7 mils in the scope...
Target size in yards X's 1000/mils read = yards to target
Target size in yards 22"/36" = .611 .611 X 1000 = 611/.7 = 872
I sprinkle everything with S.W.A.G. fairy dust first ;-)

Wow, quite a bit of guesstamation (new word) in this mil-dot ranging.
I used 20 inches, (Dall mount in the living room)and Ric used 22inches, enough to make a difference of 258 yards.
And the .7 mils? I'm not seeing it.
No wonder Pat was carrying the LRF..
Good education though, thanks.

That's awesome. I never get tired of seeing those fantastic wild sheep.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.
