they shoot great out of my savage 11 with a 9.25 twist barrel but I have no experience with a 1 in 10 twist. here is what my Hornady reload book says about it. NOTE: The 105 grain A-MAX bullet will not stabilize in a 1-10" and slower twist barrels.
Seems we constantly hear about how Social Security is going to run out of money but we never hear about welfare or food stamps running out of money. What's interesting is the first group WORKED for their money but the other group didn't.

The A-Max is harder to stabilize because it's a bit longer. None-the-less, it will sometimes stabilize in a 10" twist barrel, via 22" .243 Win, but it's hit and miss.

Jordan, I'm skosh bit out of the loop on this new Horn bullet. How longs it been out and is it supposed to be allright for small big game like lopes/deer? I'd think it'd be allright.
May have to get some to give a roll in my 6/06
Many thx

Dober,
Not long. I don't know exactly when it came out, but it's a pretty recent offering.
I've not shot any game with it, so I can't help you there, but Hornady doesn't recommend any of their match bullets for hunting, including the A-Max. Given my experiences with the AM, MK, VLD, and others, I'd feel pretty good about slinging them through flesh.

The A-Max is harder to stabilize because it's a bit longer. None-the-less, it will sometimes stabilize in a 10" twist barrel, via 22" .243 Win, but it's hit and miss. Thats what I thought looking at the profiles of the two in the Hornady manual.

Just measured both bullets, for curiosity's sake.
Measured 3 of each and the average lengths are:
- 105gr A-Max 1.230" - 105gr BTHP Match 1.222"
The AM box specifies at least a 9" twist, while the HPBT doesn't mention any minimum (probably because most factory .243 barrels are 10" twist, and they don't see a problem there).

I just got some of these yesterday to try in my 10 twist. My a.i. Works great with the amax, so I'm expecting good things from the BTHP. It will be a week or so, but I'll let you know.

Been playing with a Sako AII 10" twist that shoots the 105gr A-Max at 2880fps beautifully out to at least 700 yards...
