This isnt really a "rifle" topic but theres no section for this type of handgun so here goes! Does anyone shoot a 7mm BR and have soem good deer hunting loads? Its hard to find data on lighter weight 7mm bullets since so many use this cartridge for targets and silohuettes. Im thinking a 100- 120 gr bullet would be perfect, but would like to hear others results on performance. Thanks!

The 7BR is quite adequate for whitetail deer. My son and I have taken many in SC with that round. I use IMR-4198, 120gr Nosler BT, Rem 6 1/2 primer. I don't have the load at hand but can get it if you are interested. The longest kill was a 90lb doe at a lasered 264 yards. Complete pass through, she dropped within 30yards.Rick.

Thanks for your reply. I have load data What I was more interested in was actual bullet perfomance experience. Ive heard lots of good things about the Nosler 120 Bal Tips in rifles but not much at lower velocites. It sounds like they do just what they should. Im in Eastern NC so my deer are about the same size as yours. I do most of my hunting with rifles in 7mm but have been wanting to take a few with the XP 100 just for fun. I have places I hunt where shots are limited to about 150 yds so the XP should do great. If I hunt the big bean fields I generally use one of my 7mm 08's or my 7 mag.

Thanks again for your input

My 7BR is a Rem Mod 7 with a 20" barrel, if I remember we were getting just over 2600fps 10' from the muzzle. AA2015 also works well but is slower. Tried RL 7 with mixed results. If I were working up loads again I would also try H-4198. Once I got to the IMR-4198, the accuracy and velocity were good enough not to try anything else. We killed several good bucks with that combo, weights up to 180lbs. Never had a bullet failure.Rick.

I bet that Model 7 is a fun one to shoot. I had a Model 7 6mm Rem until I let my wife shoot it. Now she says its "her" gun LOL I do most of my rifle hunting with a Browning Micro Medalion 7mm08, although I have a few others I use depending on my mood and how much ammo I have loaded at the time. The XP only has a 15 inch bbl but still gets good velocities for most of what I do. I just havent hunted with it enough to know which bullets work best. After reading the long thread on the 120 Bal Tips on here I will be trying some of those in my 3 7mm rifles too. I never realized they were built stronger than the heavier ones. I tested a few loads today in the XP and got good results with a Speer 130 also. Ive used it in my rifle and found it to be a little too fragile but it may work better at handgun velocities. When my Midway order shows up next week with some brass Ill be trying a few in a 7mm International 14 inch Contender also. Now if I can just get enough deer to cooperate................ LOL
