I have a 25-06 that I picked up just for the action. It is a 700 mtn stainless synthetic. Not sure what it was cataloged as but it is stainless with the rough sps like finish and is in a heavy old style plastic adl style stock with a 22" mtn contour barrel.
I dropped it in a Ti stock and it feels pretty nice. I've never been a quarter bore fan but it's getting pretty tempting to shoot this donor. Have talley lightweights and a VX-II 3-9x40 on standby.
Was wondering who makes a good cup and core (read inexpensive) bullet for the 25's. I was thinking of trying the 100g hornady or the 100g speer HC. Would maybe even consider a sierra. If it shoots it could eventually end up on a deer hunt.

100g Hornady's for the quarter bore have gotten really good reviews on this site.

If you're not hung up on 100gr bullets, the 120gr Hornady HP is a great bullet. And the new 120gr Speer Deep Curl has proven very accurate in a couple of my rifles. No experience on game with the Speer, however.....yet.

The 100 grain Hornadys shoot exceptionally well in every rifle I have loaded for and are my "play" bullet. The Sierra 100 grain pro hunter is another great bullet for testing accuracy. If you can swing the extra cheese, look no further than the 100 or 115 grain Nosler ballistic tips. If the gun won't shoot ballistic tips, it more than likely won't shoot anything. Flinch

I have the same exact rifle down to the TI stock. It likes everything I have shot in it but maybe you cold buy a box of Nosler BT's. Only 50 in a box so if you don't have another 25 you wouldn't have lots of them left over. I sure second the 100 Hornady though, it works.

First response would be mine, however to answer the question you just can't go wrong w/ the 100 gr Interlock!

100gr Horn IL, 100gr Sierra GK, 100gr MK, 100gr PH. 100gr CL. They're all good.

My .25-06 shoots 100 grain bullets better than the heavier bullets. My all time favorites are the 100 Hornady interlock and the 100 grain Nosler Ballistic tips.

There are so many good bullets out there for the 25-06, but in the realm of cup and core bullets you really should check out Sierra.
I have seen game from the size of ground squirrels to BIG wild hogs shot with the 100 grain Sierra spitzer. Never a complaint!
My own favorite Sierra for the 25-06 is the 117 grain Pro Hunter (flat base). I am sure the Game King is fine as well, my gun just shoots the Pro Hunter better.
For a little more money you might want to try the 115 grain Nolser Ballistic Tip, it has worked quite well for me. For some reason, the 115 BT seems to put wild hogs on the ground quicker than the 115 Partition.

I tried Hornady 120's HP and 117's. The 120's group well but are not consistent they will shoot nice groups and then open a couple of inches. I went to 115 Nosler BT's and they are shooting nicely with Reloader 22.

117 Sierra Gamekings are my favorite. The extra mass bucks the wind a little better for the longer shots. You may try pushing them with RE17 or IMR4831.

Do yourself a favor and try the 100 gr Sierra Pro Hunters. Most consistently accurate bullet in my 25-06. Nothing comes close. They also perform wonders on Whitetails and Hogs too. My pet load is 56.0 gr of H4831SC with a Rem 9.5 mag primer. Chronos at a hair over 3200fps. Here's a few kills from last season.. 10 point at 378 yards with the 100 gr Sierra. It was a bang flop. Another with the 100 gr Sierra..

Bb BB, The rifle in question sounds like the 1st attempt that Remington made at all SS rifles. These were made only in 1993. (Cal: .25/06, .270, .280, and .30/06...) I remember ordering several back then... (I had an FFL, then...) GH

I have a mtn ss take off barrel in 7-08 that I thought about rechambering to 280 AI and putting it on this action. However, the bore on this 25-06 looks very good and it hasn't been shot much so I'm tempted to to break my no 25's rule and give it a try. I've heard people are getting 3400 fps with 100's over Hunter. If that's true it may be worth playing with.
I ended up with a 35 whelen because I bought it as a donor and made the mistake of shooting it. It's one of my most consistently accurate rifles now.
