I have seen this cartridge listed in custom die listings and wildcat listings, but can learn no more than that either the .375 Win. or .30/30 Win. can be parent cases. Sounds like a potentially capable round, but if so why is it so obscure? The name points to some connection to the old Herter's company-- or are they still around?

Fireplug

401 Herter's Power Mag, a revolver round. The revolver was made in Germany.
Cases can be made with 30-30 cases, but the rim will need to reduced to fit the counter-bored cylinder. Thats about all the info I have. ~~~Suluuq

Thanks, Rusty-Gunn. I thought from the parent cases that it might be a .40 levergun round and was interested in comparing it to the .416 TAS I am working on, but no such luck.
Fireplug
Fireplug - The 401 Herter cartridge is similar to the 41 Rem Mag, but not interchangeble. The Remington is .005 larger diameter and .009 longer that the 401 Powermag. It was developed in 1961 for the Herter Powermag single action revolver. According to Cartridges of the World 7th edition.
