Federal Gold Medal Match never had any flies on it.

Well for an M1A, you want to make sure not to bend the op-rod and the good ammo from Federal and Black Hills is loaded with bullets of 168gr and 175gr. You probably want something closer to 7.62X51 ammo and that's 147-150 grain bullets.

But if you think you can get away with a diet of heavy bullets then yeah, Federal GMM and also Black Hills Gold are a good way to go.

Doesn't Hornady Load Match ammo for the the M1A? I'd check them out.

I would think a 155gr bullet at 2700fps would treat a M1A gas system kindly.

A careful handloader does. grin

Put a 168 grain match bullet on top of enough 4895 to get 2550-2600 fps and assemble them straight. If the rifle won't shoot that load well, then it's sick or the trigger puller can't shoot.

185s were the top that I ever loaded, and shot many thousands of them through custom built M1As. Though we never had a double lugged one... all was fine. Proper burn rate of powder and it was all good.

Though IMHO the 175 jlks are probably a better choice than 185s

Federal Gold Metal Match, Hornady Match, Southwest and Black Hills are hard to beat.
