I'm in the market for a new shelter for this years hunts. I want something in the sub 5lb category that will fit 2 people and gear comfortably.

I really dig the BCS by SeekOutside but $500 is a bit more than I want to spend for something I only use a couple times a year.

I've probably bought and sold a half dozen tents in the last 4 years and would like to find something permanent.

Open to any and all suggestions.

That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.

You might really like the seekoutside little bug out when it's done. It's sort of a scaled down BCS, with an optional half nest for bugs, granted at this point there is no photos etc, but I should have a production proto in the next few days. I'll hopefully have one myself for a planned trek that will happen in the next couple weeks going over a good chunk of the San Juan mountains ( 30 - 40 miles about half above tree line).

I should note it will do two and gear but not as comfy as the bcs will

If I was looking for only one tent for all conditions it would be a hilleberg nallo or even a 6 man teepee.

Both of those will peak out your price range though. If you hard you could probably find one onsale or used. Hilleberg has a sale section as well. There is a nallo 3 for 5 bills right now.

A Nallo 3 with all the pegs, poles, stuff sacks and [bleep] is more than 5 Lbs.

I'm thinking 7 is whats sticking in my head?

It all depends on the conditions you'll be in.

For me the one shelter that does everything is a golite hex 3.

Spring hiking trips
Summer canoe/hiking trips (with nest for bug protection)
Fall hunting trips
Winter hiking

I live in Ontario so i am not hitting any major mountains that need a four season tent. The hex 3 was great in CO for a fall bow hunt as well though.

I purchased the hex 3 packaged used for under $200. It fits my Dad and I on hunting trips perfectly. In a pinch three can get in but not with all your hunting gear. This thing does everything for me. I highly recommend it.

Nallo 3 advertised min weight is 4 pounds 10oz. The packed weight is listed as 5pounds 5oz.

Nallo 2 min is advertised at 4 pounds 3oz.

My thoughts on the Nallo is its a bomber 4 season tent. If I was only going to have one tent to use year round in AK it would have to be a bomber shelter.

If going with a floored tent I am less concerned about weight and chances are I'm banking on extremely unfriendly weather. For that reason I'm getting a freestanding Hilleberg for my winter adventures and flyout drop offs. Likely going to be getting the Jannu.

No I haven't but I worry about condensation with those tents.

I love the RAB and ID tents. Well made and I love that eVent is used in some of them.
