Heavy for caliber bullets at sub-sonic velocities is the raison d'etre for the 300 AAC. If you can't get any accuracy, you might just as well throw rocks.

Good for SAVAGE for being independent and not always following the swarm.

Good for SAVAGE for being independent and not always following the swarm. Not so much. They wanted to "follow the swarm" but couldn't. Difference there between couldn't and wouldn't.

My understanding is the 300 AAC Blackout is virtually the same as the 300 Whisper, but that the 300 AAC Blackout has official SAAMI specifications. Anyone know if that's true?
For the 300 Whisper I see Hornady loads a 110gr V-Max to 2,375 fps and a 208gr A-Max to 1,020 fps. I don't see any loads on their website for 300 AAC Blackout.

I wonder if they were/are too stupid to use a tight enough twist?

savage is one of the only makers who listens to the buyer and uses correct twist...so i imagine they tried more than the usual.

It makes little sense to chamber a 300BLK in an action that is .308WIN length. there is nothing to be gained. The only bolt gun that would serve the 300BLK would be a micro mauser or CZ. The round is intended to be used in a 223 length firearm and get its full potential froma a 9" BBL. Trying to make it be a bolt action caliber is like making the FN P90 civilian legal.
