As with so many Americans, with your insular, self-obsessed view of the world, you just don't get it. We don't need you, are rapidly moving away from you and really do not care what you think about anything. Your military record since WWII is a joke, your entire Eighth Army RAN in Korea, leaving their dead and even wounded buddies to the Chicoms; you were whipped in Vietnam and your country is the most loathed political entity on Earth. So, rock on, clean up your own mess, before you presume to criticise us.

Well actually, it is we that do not need you (and you know that) and even if you do have a comic book version of our post-WWII military history, at least we have one. If you don't think anything is worth fighting for, there is no reason to fight, eh? You do happen to be the location of choice for our deserters so you do have that going for you.

THAT is exactly my whole point, I feel very strongly that the greatest protection of individual freedoms in North America is to have the U.S. and Canadian governments and societies NOT very closely linked. A much tighter border would also be most beneficial here to eliminate drug and gun smuggling and the end to close ties between the US and Canada would tend to retard the growth of cross-border big government which currently impinges on my Canadian freedoms and your American ones.

As to your deserters, yeah, a lot of them came/come here, as you certainly seem to have a lot of them. I am not in favour of this, never have been and this would, again, be prevented by a larger political and social distance between Canada and the U.S.A. Also, you would not have to worry about paying for our defence, as you see it and we could bring our troops home from Afganistan and other places where they are fighting alongside Americans.....all kinds of benefits!!!! Have a nice weekend, got chores to do.

"Fettle" means, in this context, condition, shape and refers to a healthy, happy quality of mind....now, go write this on the board 500 times before you have your Friday night beer!

Thank you sir for pointing out a word that WAS in my FuquinkanWaggonalls, and that was well-outside of my limited knowledge of the English language. I have written the word 'fettle' 500 times, and I am sure I will become a better American neighbor for learning what a 'fettle' is... now, may I go to the tavern for BEER with the rest of the Neighborhood Swine to show-off my newly discovered fettle?

(BTW; "tavern" would be a PUB to you-all)

Man... are you really stupid enough to believe that comment

After WW-II something called the United Nations (aka- Useless Nuisance) was subscribed to. The Useless Nuisance should be properly credited for the bungling of ALL subsequent battles, NOT the U.S. military!
...You also subscribe to the BS that, "the U.S. military lost the Viet Nam war?" FOOL![Linked Image]

Unfortunately, the 9-11 projectiles were a few blocks away from a proper target acquisition (just too DAMN BAD unwitting civillians had to be involved)

At first, I was going to, "Now play nice children." but your last statement pissed me off. You apparently don't know squat about the Korean war. You sir have not stood upon a hill called Task Force Smith where roughly 200 Americans fought off the invading hordes from North Korea. That sir is hallowed ground where I was priviliged to stand upon. The fiasco you speak of would most likely not have happened if Truman had not fired MacArther. A dumb President that thought he knew better than the generals fighting the war.
Viet nam. There was no way we could win that one because that idiot, Lame Brain Johnson would not let the military take out Haiphong Harbor, Hanoi or the bridges going into China where the NVA and VC were getting their supplies. Atfer all, we might get a few Russian and Chinese advisors killed. That would piss them off and they'd start World War Three. So let's let those sleeping dogs lie.

Iraq. If Bush went into Iraq on false information, assuming that this is the case, how can he be blamed. If I tell you that is has been confirmed that the moon really is made of green cheese, how can you doubt it? How could you prove otherwise? How could Bush know the intel was bad? Obviously, he couldn't.

The liberal media in the U.S., how to address them? That's a good question. Let's put it this way. I don't care what Mr. Bush does, regardless of how good or right it is, the media will find some way to villify him. Unfortunately, the Republican Party has shot itself in the foot. They have been so busy doing everything possible to make their rich buddies even richer that they have probably given the Democrats a shoo in to completely control not only the Congress but put Hillary in the White House. I doubt that it would change anything, because even those socialist (read communist in my book) are controlled by big money, so nothing much would change regarding them. They'd just raise the taxes on the middle class again, give the poor more dole to live on and the planet just keeps on circling the sun.

Al Queada. They're the real bad guys. They have been since the year 800 give or take. The Koran, their bible teaches that it is no sin to lie to an infidel. That's you and me guy. It also teaches that if you do not embrace Islam, you are to be killed. While sitting in a doctors office a couple of weeks ago, there was a national geographic Magazine with an article on Muslims. They had a map shoeing yellow dots where there was 10 or more Mosques located in the U.S. Along the Atlantic Seaboard, you could hardlt see anything but multiple yellow dots from Maine to Florida, then extending along the coastline through Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and well into Southern California. Makes one wonder just how many radical fundamentalist Muslims are imbedded in all those groups?

During World War 2, there was a term, Fifth Columnists, meaning those who spread rumors or lies did nothing but aid the enemy. I consider out left wing news media to be fifth columnnists or worse. They're lucky that our Constitution allows them to get away with it. Hitler said it very well. "What good fortune for government that the people do not think." Seems ot me that they let the talking heads on the tube do their thinking for them. After all, If (anchorman of your choice) said it, it must be true. RIGHT?
I'll only add one comment of my own. here in the U.S., we have the best government big business can buy. It makes no difference which party is in control. They're bought and paid for.
I only ask one thing of you. Don't knock our military. They cannot do their job when the media does everything in it's power to denigrate what they are doing. They cannot do their job (Korea and Viet Nam) when their Commander in Chief stabs them in the back.
Paul B. ex Korean and Viet Nam War vet.

redmtn,
No Sir, I do not think all Canadians are the same, just as all Americans are not the same. I don't really hate anyone and since I married a wonderful lady who called Quesnel home for almost ten years I especially do not hate BC folks.

I do however react poorly to some peoples attitudes,

Weclome also. I love Prince George. Wish I could go through there again on my return to Alaska, but I don't want to drive that way in January.

I am sure I will be doing some steelhead fishing around Terrace next year. Would love to fish the Fraser sometime.

My hat is in my hand, sir. And I salute You and ALL Allied Korean battle participants (that does not include the U.N. itself...the "Useless Nuisance").
I have seen documentaries of Task Force Smith and at the time thought, "those guys have steel balls".
Same thing I think when I see U.S. bomber crews over Germany and the assault on Normandy. God bless all of you and thanks!!

Remember folks, many comments from the 'O-zone' are made by people who were NEVER in the military or whom ever had to put their butt on the line for anyone but themselves

redmtn; Welcome. (Texans are good... you made a fine choice )
I have known some very fine Canadians and have always thought highly of them. I was surprised at the ignorant comments that a couple have made... Oh, well we all have our 'hidden family secrets', don't we

"As to your deserters, yeah, a lot of them came/come here, as you certainly seem to have a lot of them."

Actually the percentage is miniscule per capita, but the total number that went probably equals the number of folks you have on active duty in all your armed forces. Again, not many.

I kinda like Canada, it blocks some of the cold wind from Siberia, not all, but some. As a windbreak, it's better than nuthin'. I won't scoff at the Canadian army, either, they did good work in "The Big One" but, unlike what a Canuck tried to tell me oncet, they didn't liberate Holland all by their lonesomes, I seem to recall the 82nd, 101, and 30 Corp had a hand in some of it, too (can't count the Red Devils as liberators, they had to give their part of Arnhem back).

Working class people will always be the heart and soul of a nation, and IMO are the best indicator of what the nation as a whole is like. That said, I have nothing against Americans or most races/countries. The key word being most......enough said.

The rich will always be the rich, and politicians will always be lying scum, no matter where they come from or reside. The media will always stir the pot and spread what sells, whether or not its true.

If you simply judge Canada or the US based on the UPPER CLASS, neither one of our countries has much to offer IMO. But if you base your opinion on to the AVERAGE man or woman who works for what they have, our two countries are not that much different. We are both proud nations who have a strong will to stand up for whats right and ours.

I don't agree with a lot of what GW does, but at least he has a back bone. I am truly embarrassed of what my country has for leadership(use that term loosely), and am even more discusted by the fact that our Vets fought and died for our freedom, only to have our govt. bend over and give it all away. With that as an example, its little wonder why the average Canadian doesn't want a substantial military; Whats the point of giving your life for something you believe in if some MoFo in Ottawa is going to turn around and give it right back to the people we just fought to regain it from.
