I have a 700 CDL in .257 Wby that I am looking to shoot up to 800 yards. Am looking at a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14X40 LR scope and am wondering if there is enough adjustment at this range.
Leupold's website shows the elevated adjustment to be 116 MOA. Can this amount of adjustability be possible or is this a typo?
Also any suggestions on rings?

30mm tube, probably correct. That's a good piece of glass!

The BN 2.5-16x50 is a nice option......
Biden's most truthful quote ever came during his first press conference, 03/25/21. Drum roll please...... "I don't know, to be clear." and THAT is one promise he's kept!!!

116 MOA is true in all 3 of my 4.5-14's and enough to get to 1000yds in all of my centerpiece rifles.

Here's an SPS .257 with Burris Sig Rings/Leupold DD bases Alaskan Ti Stock Leupold VX-3 4.5-14 LR with CDS installed Balances nicely, but pushing 9 lbs as pictured. Haven't shot it a whole lot, but think there's enough elevation to reach the ranges you're thinking about.

Signature rings make sense but would a single piece base make more sense than a 2 piece?

OK. Well Cal74 has the exact stock I want and the Leupold bases and Burris rings seem fine. I think I will go with the Kenton turret and be done with it.

Here's the weight With the Burris Sig you can always add also add different spacers to game some elevation or to try and get the scope as centered optically as possible.

I too have a 257 Roy ala 700 with BC stock. Scope is a VX3 Long Range 4.5-14 with elevation turret. Rings are Talley lows and have no issues making 1k yards.
I have another VX3 LR 4.5-14 sitting on the gun bench waiting on my .280ai to come home from the smith. It will likely be mounted in Leupold PRW rings on a 20 MOA rail mainly because weight isn't as much an issue on this one and I already have the rings and bases from past guns. If I decide to Nix the rail I will probably just run Talleys lightweights again as this one too should make 1k easily without and shimmed rings or angled rail.

With the new and improved one piece ring/bases combo, I just don't know why someone would go the old mounting ring system like leupy turn ins. The newer ones like DNZ and tallies are the only way I would fly.

I believe some use Burris for the inserts/lil more moa adjustment. I also think some use the dual dovetail type on lighter bigger kickers. Just a guess as all mine are talley lw's.

I've been fiddling with a VX3LR 4.5-14x50 cds (only reason for the 50 is I got a screamin' deal on it) for a few months now. First side focus scope I've ever owned. For this longer range stuff it is very, very impressive from the glass to the repeatability.
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

I find repeatability is usually the most questionable part of most scopes. I've had a few that were reliable, and actually moved the amount specified. Most of the scopes I have used were disappointing to some degree. I have never been a Leupold fan, and the only one I have actually owned, a 4.5-14 had decent enough glass, but the turrets were neither repeatable nor calibrated to the 1/4 MOA they were supposed to be. I have found Nightforce and Schmidt Bender to be completely reliable. They are more expensive, but the NF is affordable, especially when you consider it functions as advertised, is built like a tank, and if you are really shooting long range, it just plain works.

IMO
You don't need the rail.
You'll have no problem going out to 1000 with 30mm Talleys.
If you like the Leupold, get it, but if you stay with the LR thing, you'll probably end up with a Schmitt & Bender or NF. They are much better(although more expensive) options.

Your experrience with Leupy mirrors mine. I also heartly recommend Nightforce and Shcimdt & Bender IME they are totaly reliable, the turrets are perfectly calibrated and they are sxtremely rugged
I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

That depends on which Leupold you have. The Mk.4 Leupolds and the new VX3's are as reliable as any out there. The older VXIII, not so much. E
