I keep seeing letters over and over again about aquiring 303 brass. I have been through this about a year or so ago, and can't keep my mouth shut any longer:
GUYS!!! USE REMINGTON 220 SWIFT BRASS!!!!!
I have the "formula" and have fired reformed 220/303 Savage for two years, hundreds of rounds out of a 1907 and 1899 Savage 1899 rifles...with cast and jacketed full power loads, and they work as well as factory loads, or original 303's. And you can get 220's anywhere (unless you live in Massachusetts, where you can't get anything.)
Get the case holder for the 220 from Midway (I forget the number of this part). Run the 220 (Remember, use Remingtons) through a medium neck sizer, I use 6.5 mm from a 6.5 Jap, and this will make a nice transition towards 308. Use lots of lube. Next you put the shell through a 303 Savage sizing die. This will give you the .308 neck, and shorten the shoulder. Now the neck will be too long. Use a Forster style neck trimmer and trim it back to 303 length. Chamfer the case mouth, and YOU ARE DONE! This is so simple, I cannot believe that people are still buying 303's at $1.50 apiece, or slaving while cutting down 303 British or 30-40 Krags.
I have some 400 303 Savage cases, half original, half 220 Swifts. I mix them all together, can't tell the difference in function. No splits, no case head seperations. No headspace problems. If you don't want to try this...then go one and keep spending lots of money to all the companies who are making "special lots" of the cartridge that you can make almost for free.
Best wishes, guys.
